Any thoughts on this about Myers value?

I think any player is available if you overpaying (especially on a terrible team), so we should just leave it at that.

As far as what overpayment is for Myers, I think a first (most teams interested would make this a late first rounder) and a top 2-3 prospect is what Myers value is. Overpaying would be anything more. This is mainly because the Sabres have invested heavily into his long term contract (paid over half of total money owed, with tons of years left), the player is not a rental, he is an NHL player today (debatable which line though), right handed D men are in demand, and has a higher upside then what he is currently playing at (on a horrible team). As for the prospect and 1st rounder, nothing guarantees that either will ever play in the NHL.

So I think the price is not that crazy at all.

Has he been playing injured this season because his stats are way down?

What is your opinion on any other player than Myers? Just curious.

You know, the rest of us think he is a hall of famer (probably just ahead of Orr)

Great post thanks!! I like your one option of just keeping all 4 picks. Like many have said we have great D prospects but after them...nothing to brag about. This could be the place to stock the shelf.

Also agree with trading up if there is a a player that may slip to a point where its too good to pass up. I know this almost never happens but something similar how getzlaf fell to the late teens

- yen6d1

Thanks. Not sure if you are being sarcastic or not (keeping all the picks, seems obvious, doing "nothing" with them, trade wise).

The Sabres are the envy for all non-playoff teams today and some playoff teams too (just not this playing season, but come draft time...).

I dont know that I would want anything different than what is currently happening. If the team was currently playing better (but still losing) might be better, but that is too much of a risk right now for us. Of course I want to sell players for more 1st rounders, but not many players left have that value.

Honestly, we should be selling players at trade deadline with a pick to get 1st rounders. Start with Islanders 2nd this year and the two seconds next year packaged with players to make that jump. Murray should smash this draft and then move on. I would almost be ok with trading next years 1st rounder if it was for a solid player (after this year is over) or a great prospect that is 19 or older (or a high pick this year, but I doubt any team would do that).

Buffalo's little gizmo on here thinks he just needs a new fresh opportunity on a good team lol.
Then others think he sucks

If I was DET i would only give up DET 2015 1st for him.

Thank you. I love your posts and the thread conversations that come out of it. I try to stay realistic with thoughts as it is easy to say "trade stafford, myers and stewart for Hall". Anyway, Sabres should dump all RFA even if only for 3rd rounders and roster players on deadline. If they mean nothing to the Sabres for the future, move something in that will help our future (which I have no doubt Murray will do). Murray has said all the right things and started the ball rolling in the right direction.

Trading Myers would be the same mistake the Isles made when they traded Chara. They should focus on surrounding him with better D, not diminishing their current D further.
- Ovation

Sort of true, except, nothing says Myers will be Chara, so if they can get solid offensive return for a team that has so many NHL ready young propsects, it could be a win-win. I mean, if the Sabres trade Myers and he becomes a star, I am not worried about it if we got someone that is a star for us. That is a good hockey trade. His no trade clause kicks in soon, so this is why the talks are so hot. No trade clauses can be the worst (unless you dont want to trade them anyway), see St. Louis trade last year, said only wanted to go to NYR and got Callahan and (2) first rounders (although lost a great player that did not want to play there anymore).

2004–05: Matched a Grand Rapids Griffins record with four shorthanded goals giving him the nickname "shorty"
2004–05: First player in Griffins history to score two shorthanded goals in a home game. (March 12, 2005 vs. Hamilton Bulldogs)
2005–06: Named youngest captain in Grand Rapids Griffins' history

just call him shorty.

I think the bolts won that trade big time when Cally stuck around with another contract
