As of right now, Steve Mason could be a Vezina finalist. Price, Rinne, Mason, Anderson, Lundqvist, Schneider and Elliott (to a lesser extent) are all in the mix. Price is leading the pack, IMO, with Rinne out but it wouldn't shock me if Mason finishes 3rd or 4th if he keeps up his play so far this season. - NickTheKid87
I was also looking at his rank for gaa.. his 2.32 is 13th but there are tenders on the list like Pickard who have played less than half of the games. If he keeps this up, he could be top ten. With the D and overall team play he's had, it's remarkable that he's in the same disussion stats wise as Rinne and Price. I mean, his 1st shutout this season was a 1-0 shootout loss..
I've said this a couple times on here over the years but in the 1990 draft preview the just fired Bob Clarke said the best player in the draft to him was Jagr. had he not been fired the Flyers very well may have taken Jagr over Ricci. - nastyflyergirl
...and at that draft it was well known that Farwell had desperately tried to trade up to get Nedved and couldn't do it.

Had Forsberg been a Flyer during his prime years, he'd hold the title, and that isn't a slight to any other Flyer. And agree about Kane. But I was just thinking that we may (MAY) be seeing, right now, the most purely offensively skilled player in team history. Kinda like the 07-11 Phillies, we may complain from time to time, but we should appreciate watching him (and Voracek) while we can. - jmatchett383
you might be right. it's hard for me to separate lindros' "complete package" from the pure offensive skill part, so lean that way with him, and i go back to 1980. i can't really comment on the true bullies because i only saw a few them in their twilight.

Correct. They had been together when Farwell was GM of Seattle and Nedved was playing there. Farwell even said on the record in pre-draft newspaper interviews that he would love to work something out to be able to draft Nedved.

I honestly think that in the next season or two, providing he stays healthy, Mason is going to move into the discussion on the top goalies in the League. - MJL
I sincerely hope so. He's brought much needed stability in net. It's a shame they haven't gotten him more wins, given his performances, but the way he plays he deserves much more positive attention.

Speaking of Rinne and Price, they're the only goalies that have a better even strength save % than Mason (min. 30 GP) right now. That's impressive company.

Pretty damn good draft class. 15 of the players selected went on to play in 1000 plus games and another 4 played in the 900's. Can't believe Jagr is still playing and Brodeur finally just retired.

Now you see why I get pissed when malean says that the Flyers goaltending has been inconsistent or JR says that Mason can't win the team a cup. He's been remarkably consistent since his arrival so much so, I always think to myself, how nice it is to have such solid goaltending (puckhandling too)

Comparable to Giroux?
Clarke: unreal playmaker and very, very hard to get off the puck. Fantastic on faceoffs and defensively too
Barber: extremely skilled at every facet of the game
Rick Macleish: inconsistent, but when he turned it up he was as skilled as anyone

Would you rather be guaranteed the Stanley Cup this season or given 15 first round picks in this years draft. The pick slots would be chosen randomly. - PhillySportsGuy
