I have a question for you (and anyone else who is able to chime in and goes back far enough). Based purely on offensive hockey skills, is Claude Giroux the most skilled Flyer player of all time? I'm not including Forsberg since he only played here for 2 season at the end of his career. But, aside from him, has anyone ever rivaled or surpassed him if terms of just offensive skill? Just curious what your take is. - jmatchett383
I'd say:
1 Lindros
2. Recchi
3. Clarke
4. MacLeish
5. Giroux
Maybe flip Giroux and MacLeish |

Lindros was every bit the passer that Giroux is. He had an accurate CANNON of a shot. He could skate fast, and was good with the puck.
There was a time, especially earlier in his career, when I would get frustrated because it was obvious he was playing the game at another gear than his line mates. They just could not keep up with his pace in playing the game or thinking the game. He would make amazing passes that went for naught simply because those playing with him weren't ready. |

The fact you didn't have Clarke at one makes me a little queasy.
I'll chalk that up to youth.

Lindros was more gifted than Clarke. Clarke was an incredibly talented player, but Lindros could do everything. |

thats a damn interesting hypothetical. i like it. - stayinthefnnet
i take the cup, without even thinking about it. i've said i would take the cup over personally winning the lottery. yes, i'm insane. i don't (frank)ing care. that's how badly i want the cup. |

if i could take the cup this year over 15 picks in the first round, i still think i am heavily leaning towards the cup.
the picks could be interesting. or it could just not work out at all.
how much money would it take for you to say that you would rather win it than a flyers cup? |

So was Clarke. He played Giroux's role in a man's game and excelled at it when the rules didn't protect players, the geometry of the game was far more strict and he played it with ferocity.
Recchi played when players were scoring 70 goals a year and knocking down the 100 pt plateau like it was the one pin. |

the 15 picks could turn into 45 players...it's endless - not just those original picks in and of themselves.
i'm not sure there's any amount really. i don't know. money can create a lot of good and give a good life, there's no denying that, but it can't create the joy and feeling of what watching them win the cup would feel like to me. i am 100% sure of that. money comes and goes. the cup is forever. |

It's not like we had the chance to.
ETA: My memory of the draft was wacky. I guess I blocked from my mind that we chose someone else when he was chosen by P'burgh. Which broke my heart. |

yeah. just looking at it from a pens perspective. a second cup would mean everything for this era. and all those picks dont necessarily guarantee that. but if youre the risky type, they could potentially enable you to flood the lineup with talent, and not have to worry about oh who gets the call today, farnham or sill? mustnt forget craig adams!
but it still might not happen.
and perhaps its still because i am young and no where near established, but for as much as i love sports, if someone told me i could hit like a 20 million dollar jackpot i wouldnt have to think twice. |

i have nothing close to that, and likely never will. what i do have is a lifetime of scars that i want to bury. and i don't mean this lightly. i couldn't be more serious. |
