So was Clarke. He played Giroux's role in a man's game and excelled at it when the rules didn't protect players, the geometry of the game was far more strict and he played it with ferocity.

Recchi played when players were scoring 70 goals a year and knocking down the 100 pt plateau like it was the one pin.

So then Primeau should be #1, is what you're saying

i have nothing close to that, and likely never will. what i do have is a lifetime of scars that i want to bury. and i don't mean this lightly. i couldn't be more serious.

see, the thing is, you've already seen one.

i've seen 1980, 1985, 1987, 1997, and 2010. not to mention 1989, 1995, 2000, 2004, and 2008.

i'll also throw in 1994 for good measure when ny defeated vancouver. that was like losing 3 times. against the rangers, oilers, and being a huge canucks fan at the time. so much bitter.

No doubt that scoring was up in that era. To put it in perspective, Recchi's best year was 123 points, and he was 10th in the League in scoring that season. Doesn't change that Recchi was incredibly skilled.

yeah i understand. i wish the pens and phillies would have spaced out their title runs though, if im getting nitpicky.

they also both happened too early for me. it would have been better after being long suffering for a bit.

Yes, just for that hat trick against T.O. in the playoffs. Stellar.

Why would it? Just inflated his point totals.

Wasn't about point totals relative to an era. It was about skill level. Recchi when he was a Flyer, was arguably as skilled as any Flyer who has ever played. Like him or not.

Yeah, I don't like him but placing him fourth overall in skill level for the entire history of Philadelphia hockey isn't exactly a slap in his face do you think?

To change the subject abruptly, whats the team's success rate on accurately diagnosing injuries/sicknesses this year? It's gotta be like 50%

I'm going to say close to 100% since they shifted to the upper body or lower body diagnosis. If they can just get the guy to point correctly they're in pretty good shape.

Counterpoint: Clarke probably couldn't skate fast enough in today's game to even keep up with the play. And I saw Clarke. Guys in today's game are bigger, stronger, and faster than those guys were on their best days. The idea of fitness in those days was NOT getting (frank)ed up drunk the night before a game.

Comparing players across eras is silly.

Yeah, but it was the basis for the question so you either chose to answer or you ignore it as a silly question.

Edit: Of course give me the rules from the mid 70s and the equipment from then and I'll take several 70s teams over our current Stanley Cup Champion LA Kings.
