No one is defending Gillis on here . He may go down in folklore as the Titanic of the Canucks.
Let's talk about the owner. The owner contemplated long and hard , and had half a city ,and the media ,rallying behind him to spend 20 million dollars to buy out Luongo
He settled on about 5.6 million over the next 7 years and took in return a goalie that the former team gave up as a bust, and a third line centre.
What does it tell you when an owner is willing to pay 5 million to get this guy out of the dressing room and off the team.
Call me stupid ,but it doesn't sound to me like ringing endorsement to that star player.
The only two other goalies I have ever heard of in the history of the game where a team spent millions to ship a goalie out were Huet of the Hawks and Bryzgalov of the Flyers. That is not elite company IMO.
But I am sure other goalies like Cam Ward or Mike Smith cry and sulk when they get beaten for the starting job.
I am sure the owner of the Preds flies across the continent to tell Rinne that they traded the other goalie .
I am sure Price and Brodeur had these same problems over two years with their owners and GMs.
Yup Nothing wrong with Robetra it was all Gillis. - VANTEL
You understand that I was talking about how Gillis used the media and how people easily sucked into it. I don't really have much to defend when it comes to Luongo. I called the situation cancerous in theat post. People brushed me off when I said it was going to hurt the team keeping him back when all this was going on....many disagreed(not you). The point was made that Gillis was using the media for fan lip service... and that is correct. There's no shortage of people who gobble it up without consideration....
I don't know why you need to go after me for not blaming the owner as well....my post was about Gillis not who's to blame you old fart. Sorry for giving Gillis a bad rap...

Horvat 2-2-4 in last 6 games - stevekariya
He's doing incredible well. So far, it impresses me most that it doesnt matter who they've played with him... that line gets poop done. His time on the 4rth line will be but a memory next season... he oozes line chemistry. Our 3rd liner next season for sure.

The only reason I would be sad to see him on the third is that 4th line has been so good... He looks more confident every game and now it is like he is sheltering his linemates rather than the other way around |

Yep. Especially when Higgins, Vey, and Hansen are on a line together. They were invisible last night. |

The 4th line is the 3rd line. They just need a 2nd line. |

Vey really doesn't bring much. No speed, no size, no grit, no shot... he's got good hands and vision.... but that only goes so far. I wouldn't care if we replaced that whole line with prospects and picks. |

He's got a great shot. That's why he was used on the first PP. Kid is pretty creative as well. This is his rookie season, I think he's doing fine considering. |

New 2nd unit...
4 forwards: Horvat, Kassian(yes him!), Vey, Bonino
1 D-man: Clendening
Will probably get beat for a few SHGs, but hopefully more goals for and less momentum-killing horrible PP's for that 2nd unit. Higgins can (frank) off, he has no place on an NHL powerplay. I love Dorsett, but he also should be no where near a PP. - Nucker101
I was screaming this everytime he was on the PP!!! |

wow, no wonder the guy was a pariah in the hockey world for so long...not exactly a message you want to send to players - Zogg
WTF is it, that if anyone say's what they truly think these days they crapped all over by the court of public opinion?
Nolan gave a perfectly honest assessment of the situation. I doubt there's a single player on the sabres who would disagree with him.
I don't hold out a lot of hope for our society when every time someone states something "controversial" they are in danger of losing there livelihood.
No wonder hockey players and politicians just spout clichés and redundant drivel these days when they get interviewed.

Vey may be a sell high trade in the future I think. I sometimes wonder if all these scouts showing up are looking at him as well.

He is creative, but I just don't know where he fits long term.
7 goals 10 assists. Yah not bad for a rookie year. Better than a few of our rookies recently. |
