And it makes Benning look kinda stupid, since he didn't want to give him multi-year contract in the first place. Starting to really question this management/coaching for the first time with how Kassian's being scratched after two decent games and now apparent interest in trading for a guy they just let walk and is a 29 year old pending UFA....

I don't think LeBrun makes poop up. - Nucker101
Agreed, a big portion of the fanbase (consisting of every team in the league) views a trade through that new shiny toy perspective. i.e he was underutilized, miscast, underdeveloped, not given a chance to succeed, played with poopty players etc in an attempt to justify the move.
In this case we know exactly what we are getting.....at best. Even if we acquire him for peanuts the move would illustrate panic at the top levels.

I did question why Santorelli was let go in the first place. Seemed like a great bottom 6 utility player when he was healthy and could have been had for cheap. Admittedly the injury is probably what sealed his departure.

Who mentioned the other day this yr is eirily similar to AVs first yr
I do think you have to take everything insiders say with caution. I'm sure they are aware if who is talking to who. But I'm not sure they know all the names involved.
As most of you surmised, I wasn't trying to say that Seguin and Kassian are equal talents. Just that both were underachievers with a predisposition to an active off-ice lifestyle—whose fates were/are in the hands of Jim Benning. That's my parallel.
If I was Benning, I'd remind potential trading partners that Seguin took a lot of heat during the playoff run before he was dealt, but has turned out better-than-fine.
Kassian doesn't have as much upside, but he still should have upside for a GM that's looking for a diamond in the rough.
We've been worried about him turning into Cam Neely if we trade him. That's what Benning needs to sell in order to bring back maximum return: "He could turn into Cam Neely!"

Ha!
Sure, let's go with that.

Other GM: "Then why is your soft, mediocre team who struggles to score benching him?"

Good point, and Stanton could turn into Bobby Orr.

What exactly did he say - Bieksa#3
“I don’t even know what the hell is going on,” said Kassian, who hasn’t scored a goal in 21 games. “I thought I played well against Anaheim. I took the bad penalty but I was playing with emotion and I was trying to do the right thing. I played a good game against Buffalo and then that happens. So, honestly, I can’t tell you. I don’t know. I was if not more shocked than anyone.
“Am I frustrated? You guys have no idea how effing frustrated I am. But that’s the way it is. I’m not going to sit here and sulk. I just have to find a way. It’s no secret I need to start scoring goals and I need to be more consistent. I have two goals this year. I came in and I had high expectations… it’s tough to score when you’re riding the bike.”
