Advanced stats are useless in baseball. An 18 year old player can be evaluated by a blind scout because he can hear the hitch in the player's swing. - PhillySportsGuy
i don't rely on stats to form my opinions, I just watch hear the games.

At least Moneyball was based on a true story and historically accurate. They didn't have the A's win the World Series just to fit the story |

Kind of like they didn't spend enough time in each subsection so to speak. To be fair, there is a lot of ground they had to cover. - MJL
exactly. they already left a lot out from the book as it was. it was just a fairly immense undertaking. |

Kassian is not a 3rd line player on this team. He wouldn't be on many. - MJL
I absolutely disagree. The kid is not what he is at 23 and believing so is like saying Brayden Schenn is what he is, which I believe Schenn has a lot more to give. |

That they're just realizing that now means Chevy will be asking for the moon for 6 months before he finally moves him. |

is it really that good? im a huge PT Anderson fan
i bought the book a while back when i heard he was directing it, but it didnt grab me right away so i quit - Crimsoninja
The film adaptation for Inherent Vice was incomparably good. The movie sets into your psyche like a contact high at Bonnaroo and takes you along the long (very long, 2.5+ hour long movie) winding narrative. Joaquin Phoenix has become a master of his craft and seeing the chemistry of him and PTA reminds me of early DeNiro and Scorsese.
Re: the book. I loved it. It helped having read Gravity's Rainbow and Mason & Dixon first to not be inhibited by Pynchon's zany, diabolically convoluted narrative style, but I.V. stands for me as a great intro to Pynchon. Before Inherent Vice was published I'd recommend Crying of Lot 49 but I.V. is so garshdarned groovy and nostalgic that it'll hit people in that same sort of way a "Big Lebowski" or "Withnail and I" can have us yearning for a certain time and place. But just don't be surprised when (non-spoiler) Doc Sportello is on an investigation and ends up on an acid trip that goes for pages and pages. It's a book that takes the private eye narrative conventions and completely dismantles them. Further more, Inherent Vice exudes a certain paranoia and haziness that not only speaks to a lifetime stoner, but to the very consciousness of Americans from the 1960s (Vietnam, Civil Rights) to the 2010s (Middle East, Civil Rights).
But regardless of the book, the movie stands on its own as a masterpiece. Plus the interactions between Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin are sublime. Highly recommended.

0.0% chance of the flyers or panthers making the playoffs. This is actually a unique year in that the top 8 are collectively strong and then a huge drop off. The 8th seed will be at or near 98 pts in all likelihood |

Talking about what the player is now, not what he might be in the future.
