That's because they're fringe nhl prospects. Besides for some of them it's their first year in the AHL.
As for the special teams stuff, again it really doesn't matter if they were really all that concerned about the special teams they would have gone out and gotten
And from what i've read the D outside of Pysyk and McCabe (and maybe Ruhwedel) is pretty bad. But those are the two d-men with any real nhl talent anways so again who cares if Gauthier-leduc and Brady Austin are under-performing ? - Sabresfan-365

I am becoming optimistic with Brycen Martin becoming a gem since his WHL trade to Saskatoon. A lot of talk coming from out west about how great a trade that was for him and Saskatoon. Hes playing with more confidence and purpose and upped his point production to ppg with his new team. - theblueandgold
I really liked the pick at the time and i agree the trade seems to have done him wonders.
It's still a boom/bust move but I figure with the stockpile they have in the system a pick like this every now and then could turn into a steal for us. |

From the last blog and since it took me a couple mins to cut and paste these names, phew, I'm posting this again regarding defenseman taking longer to develop than forwards:
All these defenseman were taken in the 1st round in 2008 and pretty much all are developed to the point where they are who they are. There won't be some magic switch where they become 10 times the players they or 10 times worse.

Alex Pietrangelo
Zach Bogosian

Tyler Myers

Meszaros, Benoit, Weber, Strachan, Gorges.... c'mon man!
- theblueandgold
Meszaros averaged around 5 goals a season for his career
Benoit scored 10 goals in his last 112 games before joining the sabres
Gorges is good for 2 a year

3 of those 4 were already written off long before Murray showed up. And like you said, they're 3rd round picks, what is the success rate of 3rd rounders anyways? It's not like 29 other teams are just constantly churning out nhl players from 3rd round picks. |

2 trade up targets of mine after McEichel would be Provorov and Carlo. Really like both. I have a feeling Provorov goes as high as 8. Just a very great game all around. Skating, puck control, first pass, IQ... hes gonna be good.
We definitely need to add some D prospects since after McCabe and Pysyk in Rochester there is only Martin. Thats a concern for the pipeline. Although I think we'll be set with Myers, Risto, Zads, Pysyk in the NHL for at least 3-5 years together, so there is time to restock on that front. |

I don't see why people think this. The only thing that matters is that our better prospects develop to their potential. We won't know that for quite a while.

Agreed on the re-stocking,
Tossed the name around here before the top prospects game, after his performance there I can't see him falling to where we'd be picking (this including him getting consistently better).
Never seen Brandon Carlo, mocks seem to have him in the late 10's early 20's so perhaps more realistic than a provorov. |

9th place is too far away to be a factor - Slump Buster
I disagree, but only time will tell. Sorry, I need to dream about the future, cause that is all we can think about now for Buffalo.
I saw a rumor that the Sabres would trade Stewart for G Reinhart on the Island. Seems excellent for the Sabres, that is why it won't happen.
As the Sabres holding their first and second rounders this year, I don't want to "help" them too much to move those picks value down, but I would do that and then sling Myers for as much as possible and move on. We would have a stud team for 10 years! (in a few years) |

Agree that Benoit looked extremely competent in COL last year. But again, Mackinnon, Landeskog, Duchene, ROR, Stastny

There was a fantastic piece written last year (I think) about how the top 8 rarely changes after Feb 1.
Staff for Reinhart? I would think it would be Staff++++++++ |

esp with the coach of the hardest working team
I blame myself for thinking Nolan was an upgrade over Rolston
