Can't make a bad trade just to make a quick deal. The Flyers let Lindros dangle and still got a very good return for him. - Jsaquella
It's kind of ironic how the fearsome E train was traded by the Philadelphia Flyers for three finesse euros and a pick used to take yet another one.

It's always funny when someone who often criticizes others for "guessing" on medical matters offers an opinion on a medical matter and expects anyone to take it seriously. - Jsaquella
Guessing on an actual diagnosis of a player's injury, is far different then discussing how being overweight can affect a human being. Don't have to be a doctor or have any factual knowledge to know that being overweight can lead to medical issues such as Diabetes and Hypertension, not to mention added wear and tear on the joints of the body such as the knees and back. All of which could potentially affect a player such as Byfuglien, who's overweight issues are well documented.
One thing I'm curious about, how come it's okay for you and others to discuss Byfuglien's weight, and it's not okay for me to do so? Why so focused on the poster and not the post? |

One thing I'm gonna say about the Broad Street article:
Yes, you should wait for sample sizes to become large enough to avoid confirmation bias. Absolutely.
But to me, it was clear that Steve Mason was a No. 1 real quick -- I mean REAL quick.
Jeff Reese is good with some of these goalies, man -- he has helped more goalies than Mason look legitimate.
Mason's the most talented, and the right age. He looked like a No. 1 pretty much the minute he stepped on the ice for the Flyers, and I honestly saw enough in those seven games he played after being acquired to where I was like, "Holy poop, I think they've got a goalie." |

I'm rooting for Chevy to make a player for player trade.
Actually, I do wonder if the injury will "scare" teams off from a pre-deadline trade. If you're going for him hard at the TDL, chances are you're looking at adding firepower for the playoffs. - Jsaquella
He will do something strange like trade Kane for a pick and prospect without making any other deadline deals. |

He's a Flyers type of European player -- good size, plays a style that could translate to small rink. |

There's a place here in Dallas that is serving poutine. Had one w/ duck confit, egg, gravy. Probably one of the richest dishes I've ever consumed. Unbelievable.

Yes to the talent, yes to the position he plays
Swallowing real hard on the cap hit -- I don't mind making moves, don't necessarily question his attitude, but at the end of the day, is he really producing like a $6 million player?
He's got $6 million talent. But that's just not the same thing

I took Steve Mason with an open mind. I knew the track record in Columbus, had read some of the stories about him not having the best work habits and not communicating well with the coaches.
He played well in his short stint and signed the one year deal. He played well, with a couple of lulls in the middle of his first full season, but rarely allowed things to snowball on him the way they often seemed to do in Columbus. Mason had a bad habit of having a goal against turn into two or three.
Reese has done a great job with him and more, Mason is more mature, works his ass off and has a great mental approach to the game that he himself admits was lacking in his younger days. I leaned to being onboard with Mason early last season and by the stretch run I was fully down with him. All he's done since then is play at an even higher level.
It's great for him and even better for us. Just hope he stays healthy |

Damn -- that is a tricky question. It really is
Because yeah, some might think you're winning the deal by moving MacDonald's contract, but MacDonald's a viable NHL defenseman -- a tad overpaid, but still viable when played in the proper amount of minutes.
The problem is Schenn -- if you're not necessarily sure that Kane's gonna outscore Schenn, then you're literally giving up a Top 6 defenseman AND a comparable player for a guy making $6 million per
MacDonald can piss me off sometimes, but he's mobile and he's viable. My views on asset management means, even with MacDonald's contract, you're still giving up two assets for one, and the one isn't necessarily better than one of the guys you're moving

Summarizes my thoughts nicely. It gives me a tingly feeling to have someone I not only am comfortable with, but genuinely like back there.

See, the thing about MacDonald is this: You have to run your bench properly with him.
He is not someone who can play 23-ish minutes against top talent without getting exposed. And yeah, it would be nice if he could be deployed against stiff competition, at his salary level.
But at the same time, you can play him 18-ish minutes against average NHL competition and not even know he was there -- and that's not a bad thing, considering I definitely notice who was on the ice when the puck's in the back of the net
He's adequate in the proper role. He has some tangible assets that make him viable in that role. Yeah, in a perfect world, he makes less money. But he's still a Top 6 defenseman and you can run a playoff-caliber defense with him on it

I'm highly skeptical of players who stir the pot while playing on a team that's having success. He's got a fat contract, what is his problem? |
