Isles in the middle of a free fall. Should be an easy win for you guys. - rangerdanger94
3 games is a free fall?
If that's the case then I suppose Lundqvist was decapitated. |

More on Mason.
http://www.nj.com/flyers/...wayne_gretzky_of_sum.html
Mason, who will be in goal for the Flyers for Thursday night's home game against the Islanders, bragged that he won the scoring title two summers in a row and that all of his impressive stats can be looked up on the PBHL website.
We looked them up.
They're impressive. In 45 career games, Mason has 69 goals and 127 points. That comes to 2.82 points per game, which ranks third in league history.
His stats are even slightly better than the league's other NHL player, who happens to be a forward. New York Islanders center Casey Cizikas has 88 points over 41 career games for a 2.15 points-per-game average that's more than a half-a-point below Mason. |

"THIS COMMITTEE OWES AN APOLOGY, SENATOR!"
http://www.broadstreethoc...hiladelphia-flyers-goalie
I give this guy credit for writing this article, because at least someone has finally admitted they were wrong on Steve Mason.
The one thing he DIDN'T do in the article, which was disappointing, was that he didn't embrace the notion that past performance (especially captured in statistics) does not necessarily predict the future (any Wall Street quant worth his/her salt knows this). Goaltending is volatile to begin with (he does acknowledge this), but to simply rely on past numbers accumulated without context applied to them shows a basic misunderstanding of how to use data. - johndewar
The advanced stat community has pretty universally acknowledged that it's very difficult to evaluate goalies using advanced stats. Their are some new things out that may be able to offer a little more perspective.
Save percentages are so volatile from year to year. Look at a guy like Fleury. He's having a great year after being an average starter the past several seasons. A guy like Ben Bichop was unbelievable last year and is just solid this year.
It's impossible to predict which of the top 20-25 goalies are going to put up great numbers from year to year. It's just important to have one of those top 20-25 because there is a drop off after them. |

Bill Meltzer: Flyers Gameday: 2/5/15 vs. NYI - bmeltzer
Wayne Simmonds is a pro, it doesn't matter who he plays with, he's gonna try to play to the best of his ability. With this said though, while Berube might feel he's doing the right thing by keeping the fourth line together while sacrificing everything else, Wayne Simmonds has seen a lot of different line mates since December. Brayden Schenn, Michael Raffl, Scott Laughton, Zac Rinaldo, Ryan White, Peter Straka have all seen time with Simmonds. While I understand it's been cause for injury, finding consistent line mates has not hurt any of the other lines. I believe the fourth line should be broken up at some point. Love or hate Lecavalier, he's played a lot better since being scratched and it's gonna be tough for him to justify his deal with limited line mates. Chris Vandevelde even looks like a guy who might have earned some second PP unit time. |

Colaiacovo was prone to letting guys get behind him for breakaways, like Grabner did for the first goal last time we played them.
Hopefully Grossmann-MacDonald will play as well as they did in the first game against Pittsburgh, when they were actually used as the 1st pairing. - Feanor
I'm sure they'll be rust but I feel Grossmann has been one of our better defense all season long. Even offensively, if you can believe that. |

ummm..question here. Whats going to happen when we have coby and kimmo back ? I mean def getting coby back but kimmo is the question. Who is going ?L Schenn to me has played himself into non scrath right now and along with del soto. Need to make a move soon I think. - jmdodgeser4
Without having Capgeek, can't see the actual numbers, but I believe some moves are going to have to be made. It's also possible that some players are going to be scratched just due to pure numbers, not because of poor play.

Players cap hits are readily available. What's not available, is how much LTIR cap space the Flyers have that is unused if any, to know how much they have to clear to add Timonen. We know that they have to clear the equivalent of 2M, including any unused space that they have. They could also retroactively put an injured player on LTIR if they already haven't done so, such as Raffl. One easy move that they can do is waive and demote Colaiacovo

Don't think he will be there. Not sure he makes it past Columbus with Kekalainen having a good eye for European talent. Think Columbus goes Rantanen or Kylington. |
