this is going to become more and more apparent with the busy schedule they have until the end of the season. - Mungo
The proverbial writing is on the wall, surely Benning & Linden can see it but I think they'll give the vets every opportunity to make the post-season this year before they make changes. Hopefully they don't trade anymore kids!! |

I agree they NEED to make changes, which hopefully we'll see in the off-season, but it can only be done gradually (unless you hire Brian Burke).
Hits alone won't win you the game, SJ only had 11 hits last night with eight guys registering zero - all their skilled guys had zero hits. Thornton, Pavelski, Couture, Marleau, Hertl etc.
But they don't pass-up an opportunity to shoot the puck! Out of the gate they were out shooting the Canucks 12-3 or something like that. Our seats are on the opposition end and I watched them dink around on their first two power plays waiting for that one perfect shot, which never came, zero shots...(frank)in pathetic!! - LeftCoaster
Outside of Vrbata and occasionally Bonino, the Canucks don't have lethal shooters at forward. A Sedin/Burrows/Matthias/Vey/etc. shot from the top of the circles isn't going in. I imagine that confidence is gone and thats why we don't see them shooting from everywhere like SJ was last night |

SJ had so few hits because there ws no reason to hit. Canucks don't play a physical game . Every visiting team gets a night off in the physical game category when they visit Vancouver, much like bringing your golf clubs when you visit Arizona |

I'm trading it don't worry |

Canucks had a statement game where they all played a team spirited game and fought against the Bruins in 2012 . They then sucked the rest of the year.
They played a team game and fought against LA kings in a statement game 2013 and then sucked the rest of the year.
I thought the game against Winnipeg was a statement team toughness game , then next game
Just saying |

The experience for our young guys is so worth it, so we pick 15th or 16th instead of 12th to 14th, we'll still get a good prospect.
I don't think the team is bad enough to finish bottom ten when you compare them to the teams down there? |

Nah. I kept the young players on the fact that I had nothing to gain by tanking. It would piss everyone off to no limit and not worth the headaches. I will auction it up next week |

was thinking the same thing.... kind of hoping as well. We're not good enough to do anything in the playoffs. Would rather get a top 10 pick |

Yes they don't have that shooter guy anymore. Daniel actually had five shots and ten attempts (I was surprised how much he shot last night but nothing lethal) but it's sad when the old guy is your go-to shooter. |

It really depends on their schedule but I don't see them getting any better, they're a middling team just like they were at the beginning of the year.
We've said all along they'll be a wildcard team if anything, which is right where they are. |

The Canucks just don't have those types of guys to bang and crash, it's not necessary to win but it is a useful tool to wear down the opposition.
SJ only had 11 hits last night and they won by four goals, Canucks I believe had 16. For entertainment value the Winnipeg game was better; a few different ways to win but the Canucks don't really have either...stuck in the middle.
Too old and washed out to be skilled anymore and to soft to bang and crash. Time to clean house!! - LeftCoaster
I was just so disappointed with how many guys finished their checks by giving the guy a little ass bump that wouldn't knock over a toddler |

Well said. We are a middle of the pack team and even if we did decide to rebuild, we don't have the tradeable assets to do it quickly. Tanking is not a guarantee anyways, so might as well fight for the playoffs, and hope that Benning is able to draft well and make some shrewd trades. |

They will be and are a better team than last night, it's easy to female dog about how bad the team is after playing a stinker.
Unless Tanev's injury is significant or more significant injuries occur this team will more or less play .500 and squeak into the playoffs. Same as they have been all season. They had a really good stretch early and have a had a couple of poor stretch with some mediocre stretches.
I also think mgmt has already committed to making the playoffs by signing older UFA's in Vrbata and Miller. I don't see the team all of a sudden abandoning the plan, they will try to acquire a piece or two with the hopes that the team gets hot again. |

our top line is 3 33 year olds. our whole starting rightside of our defense is currently out with injury and we have virtually nothing being produced from our 2nd and 3rd line. I don't think our team is as good as you think it is..... i wish it was though! |

I'll buy the youth experience argument, however I see this older, slower team struggling more and more as the season draws to a close. I think they will finish 9th or 10th in the conference and I'm not really worried where they pick in the first round. |

If you consider Horvats line the second line we are fine then |
