Like any good manager you take time to evaluate your players, you don't walk in and immediately sign him to a deal you may regret. That's risky business. - LeftCoaster

I wonder if some players are difficult to deal with because their desire to win is so strong they come across as being bumholes.
I would be an bumhole too if my success (how much I get paid) was being hampered by unskilled line mates or a coach that had a personal problem with me.
I understand that Kane has personality issues but I would much rather deal with that as a coach than a player who doesn't take his opportunity seriously or continues to cause his own demise by engaging in off-ice stupidity (ie drug use).
Kane is just young and cocky. Kassian is just stupid. - bloatedmosquito
People/players are difficult for a lot of different reasons; I played tier II with Steve Konowalchuks brother, who was pretty good, but he would always try too hard during practise and it pissed everyone off...it was brought to his attention a few times!!
Just an example of stupid things that can piss guys off. |

I don't think Maurice is handling this situation well. Let's face it, even if Kane is a douche, you don't sit your best player when you are fighting for a play-off spot because (allegedly) he broke a minor team rule. I'm not really a Kane fan but I think he's had to put up with a lot of sh*t from the Winnipeg media. I guarantee a change of scenery would make a huge difference in his behaviour, to somewhere with a more progressive coach. I for one would take a chance on him any day (barring something ridiculous in terms of what the Jets would want in return). |

Until Virtanen is legal and on the team, yes. |

I'm pretty sure he had video available of all 82 games from last year. And also all statistics, including zone entries, usage, possession, etc. |

Kane wore a track suit to the arena rather then a suit. Which is apparently violation of the CBA. They didn't have a choice. This has been reported by numerous legit sources. Like RDS and Andy Strictland |

There is also personality and leadership. Things you don't know until you get to know the player. |

You don't sign a guy, who's played ONE full season, to a long term deal because you watched a bunch of (frank)in video and looked at the Internet stats...come on man you're better than that. |

I doubt he is the first player to show up not in a suit....if they want to hide behind the CBA, I'm sure they can but I know there was a reference when this first came out that not all players show up in suits. |

I guess, but you'd think he'd consult people who've been in the organization since he's been with the team, especially if he's already sold on his ability and was considering signing him long-term. Personally I think it had more to do with Tanev's lack of truculence. |

Kane's the architect of what he's endured from the local media. The fact that it seems his teammates have turned against him signifies something far greater than just a track suit. |

Watching video of full games is nearly as good as watching him live. The smarter teams lock guys up before the price rises even higher. Montreal (frank)ed up with Subban like that too(not saying Tanev is nearly as good, just that waiting an extra year likely cost them 1M+ per season of cap space). |

But he very well might be the first player on the jets under Maurice. You can make all the whiny excuses you want but no reason a guy making 5.25 mill can't follow a rather simple rule that Walmart employees can figure out |

Brodin is probably the closest comparable to Tanev in the league, he was locked up early at 4.166, I imagine thats the deal his agent will be pointing to. |

Sure it's a good tool but you don't (clearly) sign him based on that. Who cares if it costs more, you make an educated decision and pay him what he's worth. There's lots of room to get rid of aging players to make room for him and his salary. |

No doubt, I agree rules are meant to be followed, but that doesn't mean that the Jets had no choice in scratching him because the CBA said so. |

I still can't believe that one.
But he was never as good as Tanev, that signing was basically like Calgary's signing of Engelland this past summer. Laughed at from the start and still is. |

Who was that New Jersey coach who used to were a sweater behind the bench. Late 80's and 90's. Looked ridiculous.
Fedoruk or something... |
