It's not so much the payments, its that the need for it would be lesser if the provinces weren't spending so much debt... It's a deep philosophical difference about the role and size and scope of a good and sound government... I would concede that the reason you were making less money is because the place you lived was tapped out, there is no wealth left there. The only thing going for it is more and more people flooding into the service industry. Manufacturing took a hit because our pathetic loser governments give bailouts to massive corps and then those corps (GM among them) take that money and build in China. You would be making a lot more money if government debt was lower, your taxes were lower and there were less massive corporate entities running the government so they had to compete fairly in the market - including the big banks... So people feel provinces spending willy nilly when it is a shared system gives them a right to female dog... When they came out a month ago talking about adding the sales tax back in for the province people were pissed. People here want the gov to cut back to pay for Redfords mismanagement so its better in a few years, not tax them more to cover her stupid spending. So its a philosophical difference of opinion, one that Ontario and Toronto in particular shared back in the day, and it caused much uproar between Montrealers and Torontonians during those years in the 6 team league... Sorry, had to put a hockey reference in there, this is a hockey site after all...

I love to hear deep philosophical views on fiscal matters from oil rich populations.

how is Calgary cash strapped?
they are on Alberta who apparently has tons of oil money.
connect dots....

Oil to pay for highways which carry cars that use Oil/Gas.

shouldn't be that hard to figure out.

- BorjeFan4Ever

Alberta still has debts.. But they rely on high oil prices to pay those debts.. Oil drops and now they have to decide where they want to spend. Schools? Hospitals? Or roads..

Redford went ape shot spending billions to the point where she got the boot, people do not have a desire to go into debt, like i said earlier, one idea was to ad a sales tax and people said no... Roads are pretty much totally paid for through tax on gasoline...

It took Saskatchewan DECADES to reach the point we're at today, and while sure, we don't have a bunch of the fancy government funded toys that a lot of the other provinces have, we're stable financially and steadily growing.

People like that. It's why Brad Wall is so popular. Because he doesn't spend our money on things we don't really need or can't afford.

You don't understand how taxes are dished out... Property tax almost totally pays for schools. Hospitals are paid through taxes on cigarettes, and other sales, and some income tax, but very little, and roads are paid for almost exclusively through gasoline tax. This is the same for all provinces, and most of the money is funnelled down from the feds...

Quebec overspends sure.. Ontario has never been a "have not" province until like 2009.. Ontario still produces 40% of Canada's entire GDP. If Alberta does well out dollar goes up, which makes it harder for manufacturers to export. When oil drops Ontario does really well. The key is to have a balanced economy, unfortunately the CON govt put all our eggs in one basket.. And that's why he'll lose the next election.

Canada+USA need to unite vs. China. That communist, overpopulated, polluted country doesnt play by the rules. Neither should we.
- wingz4life

oh sure... Amurikans should be complaining about others not playing by the rules.
Well let's see now ... there was a "little" financial collapse in 2007-2008 I seem to remember and that was brought on by: (select one or more)...

1) China being communist bastards
2) greedy phuks on Wall Street selling fantasy mortgages to part time workers at McDonalds and turning paper with very little value into paper with absolutely no value
3) greedy phuks on Wall Street moving their corporate business addresses to remote geographies to avoid tax payments
4) greedy phuks on sucking Oil out of the ground without contributing anything to the locations from which they sucked the Oil - and avoiding taxes on their fixed inflated market prices by writing off R&D (R&D investments into better sucking machines)
5) greedy stupid phuks in Detroit building crap for about 40 years and then convincing everyone that they should be bailed out so that they could build someone else's better designs and buy all the parts from the cheapest suppliers overseas...

ya... I blame the Chinese.

Exactly, thats how the system is supposed to work, good spending and provinces with opportunity will draw people in while others will lose out, too much federal influence makes that competition lessen and waters it down but thats the best way. Thats why half the guys working up here aren't from here, why would they move here when they hate it so? People in Ontario forget how massive their wealth in commerce once was, but unfortunately their provincial and feds as well have spent them into oblivion and they have lost that wealth, that has nothing to do with oil. If Kline spends like the drunken sailer he actually was, AB would be (frank)ed and taxing the poop out of people as well, but thankfully he didn't, Redford unfortunately was a poser and did...

Maybe our corporations shouldn't have outsourced all of our manufacturing to them, huh.

Agree completely, only now the wealth from the manufacturing gains in Ont/Que will service debt because of bad spending the last 10 years...

nope...

but I do think that the country that almost loses its mind over the Patriots cheating in deflate-gate (which ironically had to do with hot air and loss of inflation)... has difficulty acknowledging a few of its own MINOR gaffs.... while going ape-shyte over other countries/peoples "cheating".
