They beat ANH and had a 95% chance of making the playoffs. They're not going to make the playoffs. Doesn't that mean that chart is useless?

They did that last year too, after beating california teams too lol...it's a curse.
The Leafs are always the outliers in these various stats because they keep failing in historically unprecedented ways. Like when they run out that stat that most teams in the playoffs by us thanksgiving end up making it, the Leafs will be that team that doesn't. They defy these kinds of charts.
