I don't think the Flyers expected him to be an offensive defenseman or point producer. They didn't trade for Luke Schenn for his offensive ability. - MJL
They traded for him thinking or hoping he would become at least a 3 man possibly 2.
That's why they gave up the 2nd overall pick to get him. Luke has no consistency in his game.. He has proven that
Burned!!!! |

So, anyone wanna guess who will sit when Kimmo comes back.
P.S. Evander Kane out 4-6 weeks. |

Kimmo must be getting the injectable low molecular heparin daily to treat his blood clots. That way they can hold the injection until after the game is over to minimize bleeding risks. Pretty clever of those doctors. |

It is kind of an elegant solution because with the injectables the blood thinner can be out of the system in 12-24 hours, so if they time them around the games it minimizes the risk. The oral anticoagulation drugs take several days to leave the system. |

This is crazy goon talk, but let's say Kimmo is on a team that goes to the SCF and is playing a major role (he'll likely be as fresh as anyone). If you're the other team, would you target him more than usual, maybe give him some extra stick work in the hope that he'll bleed (and possibly miss a blood thinner dosage, possibly risking his health)? Just curious, and I'm not a doctor by any stretch, so I don't know the specifics of his situation. |

Sounds clever... but if this is what is necessary to get him back out on the ice, I'm not a fan. This is really worth it for a small shot at ... whatever? |

He's kind of like Apollo Creed in Rocky IV. He needs to do this for himself, to prove he can still do it because he wants to, and wants to go out on his own terms.
I just hope it doesn't have a similar ending for him. |

I wish I could. I guess I'm one of the few that'd really like to see us make a move for Kane. If he is indeed out 4-6 months, I'd think since we're obviously not making the playoffs that it'd be doable. |

I think that's a question only Timonen can answer. |

I'm with you, but it's his call. I'm sure he's taking every precaution. He knows the risks and this is what he chose. |

The real risk is not the external cuts from slashes, that bleeding can be controlled with stitches. The big risk is bleeding inside the skull. That could kill or disable him from a stroke. |

It's an arduous process to get him back on the ice. But, at least the way I see it, it isn't about saving the Flyers season. It's about Timonen doing what he thinks is right, and maybe allowing himself to retire with dignity in his own mind.
(disclaimer: I doubt any of us would have thought him undignified if he just retired instead of doing this) |
