Staal, Nash and Mcdonagh are next hopefully. Maybe then they can get a taste of what we go through yearly. We'll see how far they drop - znagle

I thought Horny and Sid clicked pretty well early in the season. Seemed like a perfect fit to me.
Lets break this down though. Everyone is saying this is Rossi being Rossi. But....
1. Sid still, after 9 seasons, cant figure out how to play with Malkin.
2. Sid didn't mesh immediately with Hossa (took about 10 games or so). And, they never really clicked.
3. Couldn't mesh at all with Sykora.
4. Sid didn't mesh at all with James Neal. Neal can skate. Great shot. No reason why that shouldn't have worked on paper.
5. Sid didn't mesh with Iginla. Seemed like a perfect match.
6. Now, apparently, Sid cant play with Horny? Once again, no reason on paper why this shouldn't work. Guerin wasn't a fast guy and he clicked pretty well with him.
Meanwhile, Malkin...
1. Won the Playoff MVP with Feds and Talbot riding shotgun.
2. Meshed immediately with Staal during Staal's rookie year in which he put up 29 goals.
3. Meshed immediately with Sykora and Malone.
4. Crushed it with Neal.
5. Crushing it this season with a revolving door of linemates including Kunitz, Horny, Spaling, Sutter, Arco..Doesn't matter. 71's producing
Hmm...just sayin..... - 87_71_11_29

I nominate this for "POTD", and its also the reason I believe that Sid and Jagr would be a good fit.

Speaking of line combos...
Bioshock @BioshockLGP 37m37 minutes ago
Rossi said something real interesting on Triblive radio. Said don't look for Hornqvist to be on top line anytime soon. 87 doesn't want it.
...
Said the reasoning for Crosby not wanting to play with Hornqvist is because he doesn't like net front guys and he can't skate fast enough.
..
Rossi further explained that Crosby's preferences is why Perron is on the RW now instead of the LW where he's most effective.
(its Rossi, but interesting nonetheless) - YouMeAndDupuis9
if this is true, that is (frank)ing infuriating. |

Im sorry I read it wrong, im having a rough day haha, no I say that minus the Hossa part this is 100% accurate.
Im totally on board with you, Sid has to be told "no" just like every other player in the world. Sid's quirks just aren't helping this club right now, no way Kunitz should be a given to play with Sid just because it makes Sid comfortable. That's BS
Your post was well said and made very valid points, like I said minus the Hossa thing; I thought they were great together.

I believe Winnipeg would entertain that Dumolin/Bennett package for E. Kane that was proposed yesterday. - jmatchett383
i dont know how much the team would be able to stash his salary on LTIR or whatever since they already have dupuis on that.
but if they could fit it under the cap and stash it, id be alllll over that if thats all they wanted. |

i actually think malkin is best with guys like feds and talbot, who at the time werent totally void of hands, but really were able to provide the corners game and loose puck victories for him. malkin and neal did put up pretty numbers, but i think often times malkin would defer too much. i still think he does. malkin has one of the best arsenal of shots around. i really wish he would look to score himself more. it doesnt necessarily have to mean that he dips and doodles his way up the ice in a solo, turnover filled show every time, but once in the zone i really wish he would look to shoot more.
i still think hornqvist would be perfect for crosby. that line in the beginning with kunitz absolutely dominated possession at times. crosby needs to realize not everything is going to be off the rush. i realize dupuis had the speed to keep up with that, but a line of him, perron, and hornqvist would enable him to put up likely the best numbers of his career.

1 for 7 with me. You can't stack one persons negatives against one persons positives. You're forgetting the multiple 3rd/4th line players that looked like all stars next to sid where as just made Malkin's line sink. |

Sid and horn were producing at a ridiculous pace, then horn is injured and sid begins to struggle a little bit. Hmmm..... I think horn is individually a much better possession player than Kunitz. He's just much stronger on the puck and he's a much better forechecker

yes. hornqvist is a better player than kunitz, especially at this stage in their careers.
especially on the powerplay, horns value to this team is immense.
if those murmurs are true, it is really upsetting to me that the captain/franchise player cant see that.
for someone who sees/thinks the game so well, i just dont understand that.

I read some comments about the Pens being an AHL team after the top line talent and while I get the argument, I disagree
You have Crosby, Malkin and Letang...all skilled stars and def top end talent
Fleury is somewhere between those guys and the next group...or maybe in with the next group.
After that you have Perron, Hornqvist, Kunitz, Bennett (yikes...maybe not in this group), Martin, Ehrhoff, Maatta...none of which are super stars but all are above average talent for sure.
Then you have the rest of the guys...all above AHL level except for those like Sill and Adams who we know are at the bottom.
We constantly say the Pens need more top end talent and my thought is...as it almost always has been...we don't get enough out of our top 3 guys when it counts the most.
You may say that's crazy...but I will point to $25.5M worth of reasons why those 3 need to be better and it doesn't always have to be on the scoresheet.
Look at the team this year and tell me who has been the most consistent player given what you expect out of them...night in and night out
Who would you pick? Would it be one of those top 3? (Letang maybe??)
Would it be a guy from that second group? Like maybe Hornqvist (excluding injury time)
Or would it be someone not mentioned...like Downie?
I'm saying expected value versus actual return... - icedog97
Been saying that for awhile but how dare we hold the stars of the team accountable for disappearing in big situations. Pens fans are infatuated with going out during the trade deadline and get the big name top line guy because you know Sid and Geno need skilled wingers.
In reality they have skilled wingers that they should be able to score with. When we do have a guy that plays well on the third line everyone automatically wants them to be placed on the top line....what happened with the spreading the skill throughout the lineup to have 3 good lines instead of a top heavy 2 lines who disappear in the playoffs? |

It might... just MIGHT... be Sid playing with Kunitz to try and inflate his trade value just a smidge more |

Make that 8...
Neal was brought here for Sid, but Sid wasn't playing because of the concussion. By the time Sid returned, it would have been dumb to take Neal away from Malkin.
Peter Sykora is um.....Peter Sykora.
When Iggy was brought here, Kuni, Sid and Duper was one of the best lines in the league. While I would have done some experimenting when it went cold against the B's, It's hard to judge anything from the limited time Iggy was here. I mean, Iggy got here and then Orpik destroyed Sid's face.
I thought Sid and Horny were great together.... I personally think the coach is trying to spread the wealth around. |

Also Iggy wasn't allowed to play on his preferred wing.
