What's the word on Dustin Jeffrey? Appears to be having a good year in Utica and played for WD in Texas...how has he looked overall?

Career AHLer. Basically Kadri with a better attitude

Agreed. Pretty pathetic though

Me no draft good - says every Canucks GM since Quinn. (too early to tell with Benning)

Technically, I think it's 4 - Bieksa, Hansen, Edler and Corrado. I would add Lack, Tanev, Burrows and Kenins as guys that the organization signed prior to their turning pro and developed in the system.
- 1970vintage

Didn't realize that with lack and Kenins, wow... Our organization sucks. 7 players out of 23 makeup our roster from all drafts in the last 16 years....that's basically a 7% success rate. Yet people think Gaunce, Jensen, Shink, Cassels, Subban, Virtanen, etc will all make it...when in reality we'll be lucky if 3 of our current draft picks not currently in the nhl make it.

We will also have to see how Gillis' final draft turns out

I don't think past failures influence current odds. Positive moves have been made to improve drafting and development here. I think the acquisition of our own farm team will be a boon for development and will improve things quite a bit

I wouldn't hold my breath....it's 16+ years of poopty development...I'd say Virtanen is the only can't miss. The rest of them I'll be surprised if they have 200+ nhl game careers.

Of those you listed, my money would be on Virtanen to be the only one to play more than 200 games in the NHL. Shinkaruk will need to be better than a ppg player in the AHL before he contributes at the NHL level IMO. Neither he nor Jensen are bottom six type guys, so if they're not producing points, the won't stick. I could see Gaunce and/or Cassels having decent careers as 3rd/4th liners I guess.

I agree that too often on here we assume that a prospect is a sure thing to make the NHL but I also think that it is a bit like Schrodinger's cat. Until we open the box who is to say what the outcome will be?

Well look at it this way...if 1 in 7 was to make it, that would double our historical results. Not trying to be negative, just being realistic, it's not gonna be a short turnaround but Benning has great experience and reputation in development, hopefully he can turn this ship around.

Team doesn't look bad future wise.

Our de is young and decent Eddie Tanev corrado clendening. We can obviously add to that Boychuck would be perfect

Virtanen McCann ?
Kane Horvat Shinkaruk
Sedin sedin jensen

Yup go get kane

If horvat and mccann can be 60 point 2 way forwards were looking good. Wed have a ton of cap space as well to throw around and waste on a legit Ufa sniper.

Yup allrrady drinking

Meh, I just think it doesn't make sense to assume that a player will not make it. If that was the case, it wouldn't make sense to invest so much time/money from the organization into drafting/development. Teams would just pick whoever Bob McKenzie had them picking and then call it a day
Edit: failure in the last few years has to factor in things like traded draft picks/prospects, and the difficulty players would have cracking the lineup of a contender
EditX2: btw I am not really arguing with any of your premises, just that it is not necessarily realistic to be pessimistic. Realistic IMO is to have no concrete expectations one way or the other

Just wondering how or why McCann is ahead of Horvat.

I would prefer if van stockpiled prospects for 2 or 3 more drafts rather then move some for marginal players like kane
