What would that UFA D man cost? - MJL
Don't know I guess it depends who it is...5-6 M
But if those 3 were gone ( Grossman, Coburn, Streit) that is about 13 M in cap space.
I am sure they could get a couple capable players

No real need to argue a hypothetical; since it is acknowledged that it does happen. Lecavalier is a rare case in the regard that the player has an NMC and is reportedly not keen on playing in Canada or leaving the East Coast, so if he is not happy in Philadelphia, he would have to make a decision - AllInForFlyers
Lecavalier is not a rare case at all. Having a NMC is not rare. Lecavalier is not going to retire, and has said as much. It's far more then a hypothetical, it's a fantasy that is a false hope.

I don't think our front office would be. JVR took some needless shots at the organization in the past year. Sounded mostly like excuses to be honest.
I personally don't care for the kid. - hereticpride
What did he say?
If one of JvR, Hartnell or Gagne are upset with the Flyers organization, I can't blame them.
I think many are really trying to rationalize the James van Riemsdyk trade. It was a bad one and because we already had Grossmann, it didn't make a lot of sense. JvR is a very good player. He'd be an easy upgrade over Brayden Schenn next to Giroux and Voracek. In fact he'd probably be top five in points on that line if he were still here.
When it comes to the player vs the organization, I try to be objective. When looking at the JvR, Hartnell and Gagne situation, I absolutely feel the Flyers handled things poorly. When it comes to Carter and Richards, I side with the organization. Richards and Carter were asked to meet a certain standard and they refused. It would be wrong for me to say that they felt they were bigger than the Coach or the organization as a whole but let's just say matinee games under Richards as Captain was the worst I've ever seen as a Flyers fan...and I mean ever! |

Because soon to be 35-year-old centers who have been moved to the wing and are now on the fourth line never, ever retire
We won't find out until the time comes -- but calling it a fantasy is an overstatement. Lecavalier is exactly the kind of player who retires with term on his contract: former top line player who no longer is

Vinny has accumulated over $70 million in salary alone. It is not an outlandish argument to suggest he could walk away from the rest of his contract if he self-evaluates himself after the season and determines he just can't play to the level if he feels comfortable. I wouldn't bet on it, but wouldn't be shocked either.

Yes, there's no rush.
15/16 will be another playoff bubble, transition year. Patience is the key. |

It is out landish. His line is the only line producing and he's chipping in. He's 34 going on 35 and he's already said he has no plans of retirement. |

WOW -- Don Cherry just said that was one of the worst periods of professional hockey he has ever seen and that the players on both teams were stealing money

Sure, we have Umberger, Vinny, and Amac...but I'd rather have those 3 contracts on my team than Clarkson's....YEEEEEEEEEE-IKES. |

It's so negative up there -- even The Season That Shall Not Be Named didn't have this degree of negativity
That's one big reason why I am so leery of tanking/losing -- it's seeped into the mindset of those players, on both teams
I'm not saying they're trying to lose. I'm saying that those are two rosters that have a few too many players for which losing is not exactly foreign |

It's been better -- slightly -- this period; Leafs have scored twice, though Edmonton is just not getting the goaltending you need to compete at that level

Yep -- it's hard to win like that. The first one was a bullet from the slot, OK. But that second one's gotta be stopped

Wow -- I thought Toronto was bad
Edmonton has to be off-the-charts brutal
I would be lost in Bryz's woods if the Flyers were this brutal -- even the season of horror had a ton of injuries
That is actually Edmonton's roster |

flyers first line needs kessel - Winning
I was just thinking last night that if the Leafs traded Kessel, that would do wonders for both Kessel and the Leafs. His 8 million dollar cap hit I wouldn't welcome here but there are other organizations if they're willing to part with what he's worth, it could be a good for a team trying to get over the contending hump. |

I keep reading that teams would have interest, and I just can't wrap my mind around it -- I think he is a very, very good goal-scorer. I wouldn't necessarily argue if somebody wanted to say he is an elite goal-scorer
But $8 million for one dimension, even as much as I appreciate the ability to score...yikes

No idea but the guy is a gamer and his talent is being wasted with Toronto. |
