We have all agreed about moving the Sedins has about a 1% chance of coming to reality.
Did trading Iggy send a bad message? - VANTEL
Iggy wanted out. The Sedins have shown no indication of wanting to leave Vancouver at this point. If they miss the playoffs a few more times and want to leave at the end of their contracts then trade away.
You on the other hand, have repeatedly suggested just trading Daniel. Those are twin brothers that have wanted to play together since before they were drafted. That would be a nightmare scenario, you just don't do that to pros like the twins. |

I don't understand how Vantel is getting lectured about opposing other people's opinions. I thought he was the one getting called out for an opinion someone thought was wrong.
I doubt anyone on here is going to pass on traditional cancer treatment because Vantel thinks one thing or another.... he doesn't need to be treated like a murderer. |

insert the homosexual reference b/c that's exactly my thoughts on the subject.
and you and i haven't talked/posted in how long? - RealityChecker
I'm not sure RC, but it's been too long.
Those late nights on the main thread were the best times I had on this place.

I really don't see trades available to help this team win now, unless we were to mortgage the foreseeable future for guys with problems ala Kane.
This draft seems to be unique in the fact that there should be a number of impact players available.
I think the Sedins will retire to Sweden after this contract, and will probably be 2nd line calibre for the duration of it. Their true value to this team moving forward is teaching the youth.
I think moving the Sedins sends a bad message about this organization. It would be nice to move a few vets for picks in the upcoming draft but I doubt any of them will waive an NTC or have much much value like Higgins, Hansen. - golfingsince
IMO you're correct in that there just aren't any significant trades out there to help the team or close that generational gap that exists. It's going to be small moves, if any, like the Clendening deal we just saw.
But mostly, it's a draft and develop process. Thankfully we've got Horvat and McCann. |

It is good to agree on many things and still have some different opinions.
As per the ridiculous trade proposals, it is the nature of this sight. Especially with everyone agreeing on the need(s)- get younger, draft better, replace the Sedins as the top line... not an easy fix if it is all through drafting and patience in a not so patient hockey market.
Some of the crazy trade proposals here are a, we want to get in on the action, reply to the crazy proposal on the threads of other teams... just fun. And there have been many crazy real trades that we have seen play out like Neal for Gologoski or Seguin for Eriksson+... - hillbillydeluxe
it's absolutely someone's right to make ridiculous trade proposals but it is also our right to call them on their bs.
i have no problem laughing at leafs fans when they make moronic proposals. why should i treat their equivalent in our fan base any differently?

Leaf threads get hundreds of stupid proposals every day. Dion and Kadri for the first over all. Franson for a First. Santorelli for Kassian.
Man if stupid trade proposals make you hate this site. I suggest needlepoint.

remember when we were pumping up hansen in the playoffs and jaeckel snidely goes "hansen... who?"
well hansen scored and was awesome that night. and we got to troll jaeckel pretty good. |

At this point I think he's our best bet for a future #1C, but he's not having a dominant season. Maybe it's the mono, maybe he's not as good as I thought he was.
It would be nice to cheer for a team with a #1 D, and a #1 C. We don't seem to have either coming our way.
Hopefully we can land one in this draft. |

i agree.
the problem is that the team seems to be trying to "win now" but also re-build.

Wally Buono has a routine of shipping out players when they are past or close to past due dates , including Vancouver favourite Giroy Simon. That move bit him in the ass but many others have brought him success.
I feel when a player is on the downslope they should be moved. Right or wrong I have no obligation to the name on the back of the Jersey. |

drafting 10-20 makes things even more of a crap shoot.
add in the fact that the lower a player is drafted (generally speaking) the longer his development takes.
this is what is hurting the most and killing the sedins. |

I think Benning and Linden are listening to the vets and giving them a last shot at the post season as well as trying to bring up our prospects in a competitive environment. My hope is they continue on the same path with their last two drafts in terms of selecting quality prospects. |

Question: And because of the amount of banter their has been regarding Kane over the last couple of days I should know this.
Does he have a NTC. Can He Kesler it up as much as he wants to to go where he wants to? - vancity787
I do not believe Kane has any sort of ntc. not 100% sure and don't recall anyone referencing a ntc.
I think the problem with Kane and the Jets is the Jets have been trying to make it work for so long... not sure if they were thinking Kane would warm up to the 'Peg and want to settle down and start a family there or something...
So they have a young talented player, who should be top 6 and scoring 30 goals a season but isn't... he is not happy, pouty/bratty or however you want to describe his attitude and behaviour.
He should be worth a ton in a trade, but hasn't shown his great value since having one good season. He looks more like a project than a star.
Does he outgrow this phase or whatever he is going through? Does he change when his surroundings change? Would he play any different in Edmonton? In New York or Vancouver?
he may as well have a limited ntc...

no guaranteed contracts make football a lot easier when it comes to dumping players.
that's why trades are very difficult to make in football. at the most, you trade for picks. it's draft picks that mean more in football (especially in the nfl).
in the nhl, with the cap and guaranteed contracts, you can't easily dump or trade a player. |

Just get rid of 5m in cap and get seconds for each, or even thirds, anything |

Football is a different animal. If they were going to ship out the Sedins, they should have done it before the extension.
Then we'd be the Oilers. I'll assume I don't have to elaborate ? |

He started slow but has come on as of late; plays a good 200 foot game with skill and quickness.
He's almost equaled his point totals from last season in 20 games less. |

Understood . But the theory of when a player should be moved remains the same. The result of moving that player changes league to league |

Maybe we'll get lucky and have a few more kids make the show next year. The window with the twins is closing fast. I hope he pans out as a #1C, just am not banking on it.

once again, i agree with your sentiments.
the issue is that the two forces work against each other. the better the team is now, the longer the re-build will take.
if the team could have one more elite talent (top 5) in the draft, they could potentially take the pressure of the sedins next season. but as it's going right now, the sedins are being ground down with no offensive support.
