I like the idea, but the Sabres are going to have too many players coming up that teams won't feeling bad offer sheeting because the Sabres already would have done it. Before offer sheeting for him I would offer a trade giving a better package than they would get by not matching the offer sheet.
"Hey, we are going to offer him $7.5m and give you 2 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd, or we will trade you 2 1st, Armia and Compher." |

Scoring E Kane too would be a huge win. It could be like this:
-If Murray can get 1/2nd overall in 2015
-Got 2nd in 2014
-Miller trade (not bad for a goalie, only one better I can think of was Schneider, but he is younger and had contract left)
-E Kane (I would be giving up Folingo / Stewart / Stafford / STL 1st rounder + another higher prospect)
-Trade Myers for another Top 6 forward (future forward)
-Potentially trading a few picks for starting player next season (maybe top 6)
-Couple free agent signings (he will have his pick with the cap being in question)
What a team this could be!
Moulson Ennis Kane
Stewart / Armia Grigensons Grigorenko
Larsson / Gionta Reinhart McEichel
Deslauriers McCormick Flynn / Hodgson
Ristolainen Zadorov
Gorges Pysyk
McCabe Rehwedel
Future Players
*Future Player / Fashing / Bailey / Baptiste / Lemiuex / Carrier / Compher / 2015 Draft Picks / Schaller / B Austin
*resigning Stewart, if wanted on roster (could pay more than anyone)*
Not great, but a great start. Not to mention the others, which are in a deep 2015 draft. Team will be studly in a few years. |

the lottery next year will be a lot harder to win next year teams could move back 5 spots etc
I'm 100% GM's will get pissed next year and complain . back to the old Style in 2017 - gerbe75pts
Worst the 30th team can do is draft 4th
There is 3 lotteries for picks 1-3. Picks 4-30 are based on standings and playoff results. |

To me, I would trade Myers to one of the many bubble teams to make sure their 1st is included. Someone like the Kings would be a good target (can't resign all of the young players they have moving forward) and maybe throw in a Stewart or Stafford with it.
Not sure they would do it, but Murray made a trade last year, so at least they have a trade history.
I would give up Ennis too if it was to a bubble team (higher potential for lottery pick) w/STL 1st rounder or a 2nd rounder (or two).
Trading Stewart, Ennis, Folingo, Stafford, Myers (netting 2-3 more 1st rounders) we could net quite a few more 1st rounders this year and could really smash this draft (maybe those trades include 2nd or later round picks going back). Forget the next year or two (but we will have talent, just might not win) and then getting another top 10 next year, our team would be AMAZING for like 15 years. All those young talented guys growing up together in the NHL / AHL should make the team unreal. We would have like 6 guys on the Youngs Guns team during the summer tournament too. Crazy talented. That would be worth the wait. |

I'm confused...how does trading good players to bubble teams help Buffalo's draft? Those players are good but are doing poorly for the Sabres because of the crap roster. If they go elsewhere, they would theoretically help that team get more points and thus push them farther away from better draft picks/lottery odds. |

This makes little to no sense. First, LA has 6 guys taking $40m in cap space. Of those guys, the only one they would trade would be Richards. The only other forward on the team that is young enough to help would be Toffoli, which would not be enough for Myers. LA also will have to sign Kopitar after next season. Although I would love to see Doughty and Myers as a top pairing, I just can't see a trade working.

Not to mention it will leave us with a bottom 10 defense in the league. Keeping Myers, adding a year of experience to Rist and Z and adding McCabe and Pysyck and we're on our way to a top 10 defense. Maybe sign a Franson or Martin in the off season. |

To me, if we're trading a talented player under the age of 26, then we really need to get coaxed into it. Players like Myers and Ennis are essential to the timeline of our rebuild - they will be true vets by the time our current prospects start to get ready for bigger roles. I'm talking young, NHL-ready players with upside with teams swapping need for need.
Getting Ennis and Myers out for picks is basically us hitting the pause key on the rebuild for 2 more years. |
