Id be kinda pissed if canucks did trade him, I like kassian, and hes young, hes not putting up numbers like he wants to but id rather have him on a wing then hansen/higgins, why get rid of him for nothing when theres a chance he developes, plus low numbers til then means cheap contract - phyllee
His hockey IQ is low
His aggressiveness is low
His upside is high
How long do you wait? I don't usually pay attention to Kyper ,but he brought up a good point the other night about his half hearted effort going into the boards . I think we all know he needs more commitment |

I avoided the rush and thought this year was the idea year to take a step back.
Pressure from ownership may have forced JB ?
I was quite prepared to take on three years of being bad - VANTEL
I think they just responded well to a "players coach". Then again, we had to expect some type of improvement after Torts.... throw a new GM and President in to boot and you are some highly motivated mediocre talent.

I'll be happy once Kassian stops being that guy to ruin a play with a bad no-look pass.
I'm concerned because it seems like his issue is a lack of effort. |

If Kassian could find an ounce of Dorsett within him them he'd be onto something!! - LeftCoaster
A while back when Kassian was a scratch for the first time this season I made a comments about him coming out of it stale unlike Vey who was scratched to get Kassian in and returned hungry. It was very concerning.
Kassian comes out of the last set of scratched with a different attitude. It's a step. Kassian is very hard to get through to. WD has only had him a few months with him... maybe the coach is figuring him out a little as well.
I called Kassian a *project* with great potential when the trade went down. People chewed on me for using the word project but ignored how high I put his potential in the assault. This is why I don't have this massive disappointment in him. He has been and is exactly that what I thought from the beginning.
I have come to the conclusion that his physical play does not seem to come natural to him. That's why he gets comfortable ignoring that part of his game for long stretches. This is why he gets so many careless penalties on physical play or suspensions even and it seldom looks intentional.... just dumb. Things were different in junior when he had a serious size advantage... but it's not the same advantage in the NHL. He is forever stuck in the transition.

He's right. The last paragraph in my last post addresses this reluctance. |

Well as Carol mentioned we have as many points this year as we did last year at this time, has to mean something.
I think if there were not so many bad teams this year it be a different story.
I admit the team is more entertaining on the nights they show up, but with lower crowd attendance it shows Canucks have not turned the corner yet.
Some nights they are awful and boring |

Effort can be picked up yes but once he gets goin hell be a force. Example look at after olympics last year, and as an excuse im using he broke his finger this year, and it took claude giroux a little while to get started once he got back last year after a injured finger, and sitting out doesnt help him any |

I really think that is the first year un many that the home-sell-out was not allowed to be continued through ownership buying the tickets and giving them away. We all knew this was happening but probably underestimated the extent as they have only had a small handful of sell outs this year. I wonder if that was a Gillis thing --- sellouts for... what? Prestige?
But you are right.....
There is as much competition in the for the tank as the top 8 this year so might as well be an honest team (I am looking at you Toronto) and try your best.
I think Bettman screwed the pooch royally by adjusting the draft. He created a market for tanks who now think 5th spot in the draft gives a good enough chance at #1 to tank their season just enough to get there because we have some historically comically bad teams this year. |

I think Kassian has to decide what type of player he is and play that way. The club wants him to be a power forward. What does that mean? I think it means playing a bit more hard nosed, driving to the net, sometimes driving through people. Being determined to go where the action is and hit and bump guys... be physical and not shy away from contact. Make room for yourself and line mates. Keep at it.
What I see from Kassian is he takes a run or makes a pass or play and then looks around. Look what I did, but the play is still going on and he is no longer in it... He has to show more determination and stick with it.

You can google it but there is going to be a draft lottery to determine the top three picks. Maybe Carol can expand on it? |
