MDZ led them in ice time again today -- Berube may not love everything about this kid's game, but he sure isn't shy about playing the hell out of him when he's in the lineup - AllInForFlyers
MDZ is playing his ass off.
Berube has to give him minutes....and really, it's likely Gord Murphy doling out those minutes.
Maybe the coaching staff deserves some kudos for how they figured it out, but that won't ever happen, I'm sure. |

They'll have their best negotiating position at the draft, no doubt.
But still....they've been put in a poor negotiating position all together. With Kane opting for surgery, they'd do well to pull trade discussion off the table unless someone blows them away.
Even then, though.....a guy with a perceived attitude problem coming off of surgery? Not something you want to hear about with a player you want to trade.
That said.....I'd take him on my team in a cocaine heartbeat. - johndewar
yeah. as would i. the salary could be manageable for either PA team, somehow.
as always though, that little detail of the realistic cost of acquisition has a habit of getting in the way haha |

yeah. malkin would make him very, very relevant.
and kane's two way game isnt atrocious. i think they would be able to get their 5 mil's worth out of him.
but the assets that would need to go out, i dont really think the pens could get it done.
id rather them go hard after a guy who can pivot the third line, with size. - stayinthefnnet
You guys don't need him, not for the ridiculous cost.
What you guys need is good health, #1, first & foremost! |

I don't think we're making the playoffs either unless another playoff team takes a nose dive but I've seen this team beat the odds many times before. - SuperSchennBros
Need 1 of Boston/Rangers/Caps to totally fall apart. I think that team needs to be the Caps. It's just so hard. Florida plays Boston 3 times so there's 6 points in there at a minimum working against the Flyers. Juice get's flowing during a run like this, but all that work is hard to maintain.

for all the firepower and supposed stars, the pens flat out struggle to score anymore.
most nights, perron is the only one with a pulse. granted, they werent to the supposed level of kane's, but his attitude problems from before couldnt be further in the rear view mirror now.

Del Zotto has a good junior hockey pedigree....he was a first round pick....
He's worth a gamble with a bridge deal of some sort, provided they can deal one of their D who isn't as mobile.....

That might be true, but I think the Pens need to figure out their bottom 6 forwards.
That should sound familiar to any Flyers fan. |

I still think you guys could become absolutely lethal if you dealt Malkin and addressed team needs top to bottom.
Imagine moving Malkin for Eichel and having all that cap room to play with for once. |

Correct, It shouldn't be such a surprise, but he's killing penalties now as well>
That speaks volumes for a guy who has a "bad in his own zone" rep!
I can't see both Grossmann, & Schenn staying.
They are the same type of player. |

We're in a positive position in terms of young players who still have a lot to give.
I know I'm alone on this but I really like Luke Schenn when he plays within his limitations. His reaction to Bellemare getting hit today, being right handed is useful, the blocking shots and overall physical play is nessassary to this team right now. He's still young himself. |

Jesus, why does everyone hate him?
Next everyone will want to resign MDZ for 5 years @ $3mill a yr.
And female dog that $5 mill a year would be too much for him as well.
Has anyone checked Matt Carle's salary recently? - puckhead17
It's his contract. He's done well in his current role-handling secondary minutes and not being over exposed. The trouble is, he's getting paid to be one of the leaders of the defense-you don't make that kind of financial and term commitment to a guy to be a secondary guy.
That's the biggest issue with the Flyers defense, as a whole. They have 8 legitimate NHL defensemen. All of them are capable NHLers. But most of them are being paid a premium for what they bring to the table. In some cases, they are overpaid for what they bring to the table. If MacDonald was making $3mm a year, on a 3 or 4 year deal, I doubt anyone would have much issue with him.
It's not really MacDonald, it's just that he's the most egregious example of the Flyers paying a premium for guys who are second tier defensemen. |

i still think im in too much of a win now mode to really consider that too much. i dont think you would receive fair value in return. cap room would be nice, but theyd still need the players to pay in the first place. i do see that side of the coin, and can see the merits, but i have a hard time bringing myself to really consider it. |

I've been saying that for months, about NG and Fat Schenn.
The funny part is that I like NG better than Fat Schenn, yet Fat Schenn will probably get retained because he is cheaper and right handed. |

But you guys have not been healthy.
Hornqvist has been out a few times, Crosby, & Malkin for stretches.
Maata, Letang, I think Kunitz was out for a while as well at one time.
As soon as you guys get one back, another goes out.

Schenn is also more mobile, younger, a better passer and healthier. But he's also more expensive ($3.6mm to Grossmann's $3.5mm) |

The thing is....if ownership felt that trading Malkin was the way to go, Rutherford is the perfect guy to make the deal. Do Pens fans feel Rutherford is in it for the long haul?
Rutherford could make that deal and ride off into the sunset, regardless of how the deal worked out.

true. but thats hockey. its gonna happen.
maatta and dupuis being out are killers.
but realistically, the only body theyre anticipating coming back right now is blake comeau. a nice depth guy to have, but if blake comeau is the difference between getting pasted 5 0 by the canucks or not, then some people have some serious soul searching to do. |

Thanks for correcting me....for some reason, I thought Fat Schenn was cheaper.
And you're correct, btw, on those other reasons.
I do think NG is stronger along the boards, better in front of the net, and a more reliable physical presence in that he doesn't get caught out of position the way Luke Schenn does.
