I've been saying that for months, about NG and Fat Schenn.
The funny part is that I like NG better than Fat Schenn, yet Fat Schenn will probably get retained because he is cheaper and right handed. - johndewar
I agree with you, I think he's a better player, but not by a whole lot.
Despite the slow pace they both are moving at.
He seems to block shots better, and makes better decisions, & he's a beast in the corners. |

i still think im in too much of a win now mode to really consider that too much. i dont think you would receive fair value in return. cap room would be nice, but theyd still need the players to pay in the first place. i do see that side of the coin, and can see the merits, but i have a hard time bringing myself to really consider it. - stayinthefnnet
I still think you could be in win now mode with that move. Pick up a guy like Justin Williams in FA and a depth D man or two. |

true. but thats hockey. its gonna happen.
maatta and dupuis being out are killers.
but realistically, the only body theyre anticipating coming back right now is blake comeau. a nice depth guy to have, but if blake comeau is the difference between getting pasted 5 0 by the canucks or not, then some people have some serious soul searching to do. - stayinthefnnet
Pascal Dupuis might be the most underrated player in hockey. |

The thing is....if ownership felt that trading Malkin was the way to go, Rutherford is the perfect guy to make the deal. Do Pens fans feel Rutherford is in it for the long haul?
Rutherford could make that deal and ride off into the sunset, regardless of how the deal worked out. - johndewar
rutherford actually hasnt been too bad in my opinion. but i dont know. not to be crude, but i dont know if JR is exactly at the point in his life where he expects to be in a situation for a lengthy period of time. who knows.
although if we take the ownership factor into account, i really cant see it. i really do think theyre married to their 2 stars.

Thanks for correcting me....for some reason, I thought Fat Schenn was cheaper.
And you're correct, btw, on those other reasons.
I do think NG is stronger along the boards, better in front of the net, and a more reliable physical presence in that he doesn't get caught out of position the way Luke Schenn does. - johndewar
Schenn is more prone to very noticeable breakdowns, for sure. And Grossmann is better in the areas you mention.
My preference would be to go with youth and the better puck skills, because I worry how well Grossmann will be holding up in 2 or 3 years. He's missed chunks of time in each of the last three seasons. |

would have loved to snag him in a trade somehow.
i just think that unless youre getting some real NHL ready talent in the haul coming back, it would be a reallly difficult patch job to replace him. |

yeah. he is up there.
read has a better shot, but he was basically the parallel i always say on the flyers.
underrated guys, but they play big roles for their respective teams.
when theyre either out or really struggling, it ripples throughout the lineup |

You could do worse than Rutherford. But is he allowed to make his own deals?
How involved is Mario in personnel decisions? I don't even pretend to know.
There are folks here that think Ed Snider does line combos and it's likely, that Ed Snider is simply worried about his viagra supply while trying to placate his 5th wife. |

oh yeah. one was one of the only guys on the team with a good element of speed. greatly contributed to the overall two way game. it also was simply a killer as far as depth was concerned.
and maatta really hurts as well. for all the supposed puck moving skill on the back end the pens had going into the year, it really just becomes letang in a hurry once he is taken out of the equation. |

i am kind of meh on shero at this point.
i dont think he was bad by any means. he made his fair share of good moves.
but ultimately i think doubling down on dan killed him. when change needed to be made, everything was just flushed out.
but he can be pretty much examined under the same lens as holmgren. anyone can point out bad things and shortcomings now with hindsight.
but overall with shero, i think he did some decent things. although the drafting was pretty crappy. and the doug murray thing will always hurt. |

I do think Luukko got moved out in a corporate move against Ed.
Comcast or whatever the (frank) they are called these days, has been making subtle moves against both the Flyers and Phillies. |

You can drop smiley faces all you want, but here's the reality: For $6 million per, the Jets are paying for one 30-goal season and a guy who has never reached 20 goals in any other year
That's right. 14 goals, 19, 30, 17, 19 and 10 -- for $6 million dollars

And that was what I kinda thought of Ray Shero....for every good thing he did...there was something not so good.
He'll work again. Like Dean Lombardi. That dude landed on his feet alright, no? |

He stocked you guys with some nice defensive prospects, (I thought).
For an offensive minded team, thats pretty good.
Honestly, you guys didn't need to draft too many wingers for a while, just put crap on Syd, or Gino's wing & get at least 20 goals.
Really, when you look at him, vs. Holmgren...................Why is he unemployed? |
