Me: "Hey maan, was wit the sill jerseys man" (end of game)
Him: "I like him" - canadianpenfan
I assume the follow up question had to be WHY", to which their head exploded because there is no real good reason to like Sill. |

SOMEBODY IS TRADING FOR HIM, DAMN IT.
This time I meant the Isles, though, because their PK sucks. |

I think I can make a deal for him using things around my room.
Ill give you 83 cents, a signed Darryl Strawberry baseball card (crack not included), a half used stick of Degree deoderant, and a 10 ft HDMI cable.
Oh and you have to take Sutter. I heard Skinner wants him back. |

Ours is usually serviceable but it was terrible vs Vancouver. Of course, everything sucked that night. P U! |

That's why stats geeks keep getting rich in Vegas, right?!? That's why NHL FO's give little credence to them beyond making PR-friendly small time hires, right?
Did I mention that I don't care about "possession" if that's how you define attempted shot differential? There is no statistical significance between shot quality and quantity? What?!? And Sutter has a habit of shutting Stamkos down when matched up against him. Guess that's why it's one of the few matchups Johnston has pursued this year, but what would he know, he apparently doesn't put much stock into analytics. And hockey is a long string of anecdotes, which is why statistics will never be able to paint more than a sliver of a full picture.
Oooh, burn.
Way to address the points I laid out. Won't respond if you're just going to shift arguments and sidestep the points in question. - hardnosed
Nice refutation of the fact that you were completely erroneous in claiming managerial staff cannot observe the entire operations line. But I guess I'm the one side stepping arguments.
Sports gambling agencies use analytics, and most NHL front offices pay significant money to Analytics firms, making your point even more more inane.
Scoring chances are heavily correlated to shot quantity. Also, a higher percentage of shots being scoring chances is not reproducible. Johnston does put some stock into analytics, that is why he employs the offensive system that he does; statistically speaking, carrying the puck into the offensive zone produces the most favorable results.

Speaking about Brandon Sutter and his general (frank)boyness. Anyone catch the premier of Better Call Saul last night? Anyone else think that those skateboarding (frank)boy twins looked a lot like Flat Stanley? |

Recommended. I didn't have any faith in the spinoff but I thoroughly enjoy it. If you end up watching it, pay attention to the twins that try and scam Saul by skating into his car. Maybe its the obnoxious beak like noses, but I think they've got some Sutter in them. |

Would betting agencies use the stats more as form that analytical data. They want to know who will win not how the win will occur. It's funny all the stats people say that they cannot predict what will happen in a game but justify their results as science.
I would bet that the gamblers take every aspect into consideration - is there bad blood between the teams, how many games has both played leading into the game, who is carrying injury just to name a few things numbers cannot tell you (maybe the number of games but the fatigue levels or the 6-0 wash won't show the stats guys the condition of the players which is something gamblers take into consideration). Many facets of a game that numbers cannot tell, why is it any different with coaches? They need to look at the ice not a sheet of paper that tells them how many shots were made while player X was on the last shift last game.
Both have a place in the modern game - I believe it very dangerous to rely only on 1 source of data or information.
If you created a team purely on skill then 1 with less skill more aggression that forechecks hard & hits even harder, over a 7 game series which 1 would win? |

Ha. Well I probably poorly communicated that. I watched it last night. Just meant that I didn't notice the skater boys looking like Sutter.
But as far as the show is concerned. Pleasantly surprised. Will probably watch the whole season. |

Goals are not predictive. Also, Red Wings outscored the Pens in the 2009 SC finals. |

Curious conspiracy theory here:
Goc who is Ehrhoffs friend was traded right around the time talks fell through with Ehrhoff. I wonder if that was retaliation?
I hope management isnt that petty and personally I like the Lapierre trade, but if it was a retaliation move, then I would predict that Ehrhoff is available.
I like Ehrhoff but he is kinda redundant if we keep Pouliot up.
Ehrhoff to LA for a 1st
See if we can work out a deal with Ottawa for Methot.

There were reports that Hoff is looking for 6 or so for 5 years. If that's true, I'm glad talks have fallen through. Frankly, I don't think he's been all the great. Especially offensively. I just expected more. He seems to miss the net A LOT.
IDK.... I think the Pens should look elsewhere. Oh and he has a full NMC. He's not going anywhere unless he approves. |

Thats why you trade his best buddy so he wants to move. Ehrhoff will wave to go to any contender, he intends to get paid next year and likely will. I was pretty big on Ehrhoff to start the year but he hasnt performed to what I was hoping.
He does miss the net alot.
I like Methot alot, he is a big mean dman, trade Ehrhoff and deal for Methot, then sign Methot next year at 5x5 and let Martin walk.
Letang Martin
Despres Methot <--- thats a mean shutdown d unit.
Pouliot Scuds
next year
Letang Maata
Despres Methot
Pouliot Scuds/Hopefully someone better |

I'm not saying it can't happen, but I don't think that's likely. I'm hoping Boychuk goes to FA.
As much as I like Martin, I let him walk. He's a guy that can't afford to lose a step and he's approaching the age where all players lose a step.

Like I've said before, Ehrhoff is a luxury that we cannot afford. Our money would have been better well spent on someone like Graobovski or Kuelimin. We need cheaper options and the other money distributed towards quality bottom 6 players.
We can get cheaper d-men like, Carlo Colaiacovo, Anton Volchenkov and
Keith Ballard at very reasonable costs. With this approach we can go after bottom six guys like: jay beagle, david moss and carl soderberg.
These are just examples of players that we can pursue that are economical and much better than our current bottom 6. |
