They could give him a lower number. There are plenty available.

Edit: I mean seriously there are like 70 numbers to choose from.

aren't the higher numbers reserved for temp players?

That's my biggest concern, the future. Mason is a legit plus starter, if not slightly better. They need to keep him healthy.

If he's getting hurt by compensating for an existing injury, or playing despite an existing injury or even just having a run of bad luck with the rash of injuries, it's a concern. I think it's too much of a coincidence, the same leg, and Mason admitted to the press more drastic measures were considered.

This guy is a big piece moving forward. Got to weigh that over making a late, improbable run to a wildcard

EDIT: My fear: "PLAYOFF$$$!!!" excitement could kick in around the financial quarters of the organ-eye-zation.

More or less. Giroux wore 56 (2 x 28) during his emergency recall. The defensemen usually wear #'s in the 40s/50s. I guess it makes sense, since the higher #'s are rarely used compared to the numbers 2 - 39.

Agree; 30, 33, 34 all available and a little more like "Goalie" #'s

As much as I want them to win, and I really do, I still would shut Mason down right the hell now

The guy is hurt. To whatever degree, I don't know, but he is hurt, and it is lingering or causing new injuries, so shut him down so he can get right

- AllInForFlyers

I just want them to be prudent. If he needs surgery, get it done, and get him healed up.

Yep. With their schedule, they could easily be closer to a berth in the next few weeks.

I fully believe that this is true.

"If he says he's ready to play we're going to put him out there."

Damn caution.

- mayorofangrytown

I don't beleive the Flyers would let what a player says, trump a medical recommendation from team Doctors. So it's really, the Doctor's have cleared him, and there is no medical reason why he can't play, and he says he's ready to play, so we're going to put him out there.

Absolutely, if the prognosis in the past was that some rest and then he can play through it, was the recommendation from the Medical staff. It's now time for a more aggressive approach. If that involves some kind of surgery or sitting him down for the year, so be it.

Considering, that the medical staff considered "more drastic" measures when Mason originally got hurt, it sure seems possible that they basically settled on it being a case of pain tolerance or management, hoping it wouldn't be a recurring issue

It's obvious that there was a choice to be made. Surgery probably would have shut him down for the year, something the team and the player wouldn't be particularly in favour of.

Since they don't tell us what the injury actually is until there is surgery or an off season we can only guess. They opted to get him back on the ice as quickly as possible. That always seems to be the way they go. It's just not necessary this season.

I do like that teams/managers get punished for making stupid decisions now. It was annoying watching players' careers getting ended over contracts teams should have known better than to offer in the first place.

Owners are finally starting to realize that the salary cap necessitates a better breed of general manager.

I like it. Everyone was given 2 get out of jail cards, that's enough. Teams shouldn't be able to hide from bad signings. They get rewarded for good signings. Shouldn't be a one way street

Which is quite different from the Medical staff saying he needs to be shut down, and we recommend surgery, whether corrective or exploratory, and the team went in the other direction because Mason said he's ready to go and can play.

Do you trade Giroux or Vorachek?
- mayorofangrytown

No way.

The only people I dont trade are Giroux, Voracek and Mason.
I just dont think you get a realistic or equal return for those two and they are basically top line players entering or in their prime.

Everyone else is on the table.

As much as some people are saying this is all related so reoccuring, which logically it certainly could be, we dont have enough information to say that for sure.

I hate this lower body, upper body BS.
