Do we know if it is a 1st rounder in 2015 or 2016?? Is Winnipeg now in the Mcjebus sweeps?

Edit: Never mind Buffalo has 3 1st rounders this year. They obviously are not getting the best of the 3.

Sabres Retaining half of Drew Staffords salary as well.

- classic321

Probably to be able reach the salary cap floor. Would surprise me to see WPG flip that first for another asset at the TDL.

Probably good for them in the future, but for a team that was already one of the worst ever assembled, they are going to be the Gretzky of tankers for the rest of the season.
- CubanBuffet

Nobody has any chance of out tanking them. EDM is going to have to make a move to catch up...

Except that he has said he liked being coached by WD and would like to play for Linden.
- Retinalz

He said Linden was his idle, he didn't say he wants to play for Trevor Linden and the canucks organization.

People are reaching as much as Toronto is with Stamkos.

Jets made a great deal IMO. Wow.

I thought Kane was going to have diminished trade value.

Hodgsen is gonna get dumped off somewhere.
- thundachunk

Thats only possible if they retain 50% of his Salary and trade him for a 7th round pick. They will likely buy him out of the contract.

Glad the Canucks didn't make a move for Kane, I like our prospects and we need more of them not less. Team is seriously declining.

I am so glad this is over

Honestly. I dont know what to say about that Kane deal...... If I knew we could have got Bogosian in a package deal with Kane. My sentiment on these boards lately would have been a little different.

Not as if Bogosian is freakin Ray Bourque. But I believe he brings something the Canucks Sorely lack.

Maybe they got him so they can bring up rookies and keep them out of the spot light due ot focus on Kane's antics.

I honestly think both teams lose this trade. The d swap is a slight upgrade for Winnipeg and they get a late first with a C level prospect. Stanford won't provide much.

With that said, Buffalo loses more. Kane wanted out of Winnipeg because it was a small town with a lousy climate. Have you guys been to Buffalo? I went to a Sabres game last year it is truly one of the worst places Ive ever visited. Kane will continue to do his thing until they are forced to move him.

Buffalo is a very poorly run organization and this will blow up in their face like most of their past transactions.

There's no way we could have put together a package like that without ruining our chances of future success. BUF still has: 2 firsts this year including the McDavid/Eichel pick, Zadorov, Ristolainen, Reinhart, Grigorenko, Girgensons... A similar package from us would have been something like Tanev+Hansen+1st+Jensen+McCann for Kane+Bogo

Personally, I would rather have Bogosian than Myers

Might need the cap hit on a young, cheap team. Why not see if he can bounce back, see what the kid is really made of?

IMO it will work for BUF because they have been stockpiling so many assets it doesn't hurt them to overpay. For teams that are looking to move top tier assets I can't think of any team with more chips to play with than BUF, although they certainly lost a couple today

They are probably thinking they need to be out of rebuild mode by next season and he can help with developing rookies(not through play but by taking up the spot light so rookies arent overwhelmed) and help with not being last place next year.

Winnipeg was getting crazy magical package offers from teams like the Canucks and then they get offered this. Jump all over it if you are the Jets.

Hopefully with Kane having something to prove next season, I think Buffalo will have an interesting look if everyone shows up to play.

Now I hope someone trades for Santorelli and Winnik before the canucks do.

My friend was riding the bike with Bogo's wife when the trade came through and she told her that her husband was traded. She said she was happy because they were getting tired of the media in Winnipeg.

I actually think the deal was fairly good for both teams, with BUF paying a bit more than I thought they would if Myers was part of the package.

If you think about it, Myers has been struggling for some time and the rumors surrounding his exit go back almost as far as Kane's. BUF gave up none of their top prospects (which you list above) and also manage to offload Stafford who has struggled with inconsistency forever.
