Since 2007 they've only traded away two 2nd round picks, 2010 and 2011, in 2011 they moved down in the draft acquiring an additional 3rd and 4th round picks.

They just suck at drafting - end of story!!

- LeftCoaster

They also didn't have a 2nd in the 2013 draft and no 3rd in 2012, 2010, 2008, 2007. I agree the drafting hasn't been good but the first 3 rounds are where most the players come from.

There isn't a lot of players that go to the AHL and even make it to the NHL. Most players now a days may spend one year there and then they make the club. Detroit is probably the only team that keeps their prospects down there and lets them develop.

And Tampa Bay, they may be better then detroit at finding players.

To this day I have no idea how Ondrej Palat dropped to the 7th round of the draft.

Guy puts up just under 100 points his draft year in the CHL and he gets drafted in the 7th round.

The 7th round is usually super obscure hockey leagues and high-school teams, and fighters in the CHL who put up like 15 points at best.

Yes but don't forget they had two first round picks in 2013, meaning they had three picks in the first three rounds - Bo Horvat, Hunter Shinkaruk & Cole Cassels.

2010 was a total write-off, 2006 to 2008 was Nonis handing out 2nd round picks like candy for washed up players...(frank) I don't know how that POS still has a job?

He did is as an over ager, 2008 would have been his first draft eligible year.

EDIT: Teams probably thought he might get missed and could sign him without using a draft pick on him.

He was an overager, but you still have a point there.

And the Canucks rarely draft guys who put up good CHL numbers and fall in the draft for whatever reason(size, skating, off-ice, etc.). If you don't have the Euro scouts like Detroit, it's not too difficult to just draft point producers and develop them to become more complete players instead of drafting a scrub and hope one day he can become a 4th liner or a 6/7 d-man for you.

Thanks didn't realize that.

Guess I'm just jealous of Tyler Johnson and Palat and it cost Tampa bay pretty much NOTHING to get them.

20 years old when he was drafted, he wasn't even playing in the CHL during his draft year. He turns 24 in March.

They drafted Brayden Point in the 3rd round, 79th overall this year. Had 91 points in 72 games in the WHL last year and lead his team in scoring, has 57 in 41 so far this year.

Canucks drafted Tryamkin 66th overall, we'll see how that goes.

played pretty well in the WJC as well. One of the few guys on the team that was drafted after the 2nd round on the team.

An Italian beer, much like a crisp lager.

You can always take the pickle out, stop sounding like a whiney Maple Leafs fan!

- Marwood

One of the oldest breweries in Italy, based in Rome, the Nastro Azzurro is the premium lager most commonly found in export markets. The Peroni "Red" is the more common product on shelves and pizzerias in Italy. Deliciously crisp and refreshing on a warm Italian afternoon while wandering the palazzos and city streets.

Now, it is owned by SABMiller, so it's kind of "big business"

Yup, excellent pick. TB fans can't be upset with it even if his game doesn't translate well into the NHL because was one of the best values at that point(awful pun not intended) in the draft.

Bob Mac thinks Buffalo is going to win the Evander Kane bidding war.

--- 3 first round picks this year.
----Tyler Myers, Chris Stewart, and other roster players who would really help
----countless young prospects, (Joel Armia)

Pretty damn tough for Vancouver to compete with that, and frankly I don't want them to.

Nice that he doesn't have a NTC ... otherwise he might do the RK and demand Vancouver ....

not a chance Buffalo moves their top pick and the other two 1st round picks will likely be 24 or higher. Myers is a good player, but the Jets are pretty solid on the backend. Stewart is just a rental. They do have a ton of good prospects though

I think the deciding factor will be: "does Evander Kane actually want to play there?" If you were a GM, would you want to invite the "Get me the (frank) outta here" poop show we have all seen in WPG?

I don't wanna see any assets go for Kane, we can draft and develop our own kids!!
- LeftCoaster

Put it this way. If benning gives up even one of those assets for Kane, we should have kept gillis.
Maybe I'm being optmistic but is benning just diverting the media? His reputation is one of a guy who holds his cards close to his vest.
I really can't see anybody giving the jets near that kind of package.

Didn't Buffalo already try to buy their success? That didn't turn out so well. I think they will be a little more cautious this time.

I'm just saying they have the picks.

No GM would be stupid enough, maybe Gillis to trade their pick when they are in first place for McDavid

Connor McDavid and Sam Reinhart as your top 2 centreman with Evander Kane on the wing.
(that is a pretty powerful damn line-up)
