Could the Flyers have offered a better deal? - 3flyerkids
Maybe, but I'm glad they didn't. |

Could the Flyers have offered a better deal? - 3flyerkids
Probably not. They don't have the firsts to give like Buffalo did, they don't have a defenseman as good as Myers, and they don't have a forward prospect (aside from Laughton) as good as Lemieux.
Best the Flyer could have offered in comparison would be something like:
Laughton
Coburn

Again. THIS IS WHERE WE DIFFER
I think the Flyers will beat good teams and lose to bad teams. That stuff happens every year, regardless of the makeup of a team.
You stating that the Flyers underachieved is where we differ in opinion, and is what I have been trying to explain.
I think the Flyers are doing exactly what they were predicted to do. It is exactly what I said I thought they were going to do in the pre-season. They are a playoff bubble team. I said in September I thought they were be closer to a top 10 pick than to a playoff spot.
YOU think they are underachieving. Simple as that. I just dont understand that sentiment. Im sorry...
EDIT: What did you expect from them, so as to label them underachieving? - jak521
They currently aren't a playoff bubble team. They are pretty much out of the playoffs, and aren't likely going to make the playoffs unless they make a huge run, and a bunch of other teams falter. I think they should be a playoff bubble team and competing for a playoff spot. You just contradicted your own opinion with this post. |

Just me, but Myers > Kane. - jmatchett383
i think its easier to compare bogo to myers.
then the other pieces to kane. Stafford, the prospects, and the first.
i dont know.
like a few of you just said, i really can see it from both sides. if i was forced to decide which side id rather take, i do think i would go with the Sabres haul.
unless youre telling me that myers was going to get some great haul from detroit or something, which i think they have tried and failed for already.

Could the Flyers have offered a better deal? - 3flyerkids
No, because whatever anyone thinks of Myers, he is no worse than third-best on the Flyers, and Armia and the pick are differentiators, plus they threw in another prospect
Buffalo gave up a lot |

In the few times I have seen Bogosian, i didn't see the hockey sense, but I defer to those who have
I like Myers more than most -- he was not very good most of last year, but I think he turned it around late and has been good this year
He has physical gifts like few others - AllInForFlyers
To me, Myers is like Andrew MacDonald after eating one of these:
If Bogo can stay healthy, he's a better player than Coburn. |

And I know Bogosian will be labled as this injury prone player but don't you think people can start saying that about Mason. I mean I worry a little now because it has been 3 seperate occasions he has been hurt now. Yes everything could be fineor maybe this is the start of something. - J35Bacher
Two of those separate occasions were due to the same injury. Both times he went out with the knee injury were the same thing-they tried a non surgical fix and it didn't work |

 - AllInForFlyers
Such a nutty trade... like one of those hfboards proposals that people laugh off. I could really see the trade backfiring for either of these teams, and a GM (or two) fired over this one down the road. |

they did, but overall, i like it from their point of view.
you and i are somewhat similar when thinking about prospects. at some point, you need to inject NHL ready talent. And while i dont think kane is gretzky, i do think that if he gets his head on right, he will be a physical 30 goal winger. Bogo coming back absorbs sending Myers out. |

Would you have done the Schenn's ( for Kane)..... Coburn And Read for Bogosian
B Schenn could have been straight up for Kane IMO.
I think Kane can be a " finisher".... Just have not seen that from B Schenn yet. He has missed numerous chance on the PP... Hartnell was good in the high slot taking feeds from G. Schenn... Not so good |

The only problem I have with it is the 1st rounder from Buffalo. That's where this went from a fairly well-balanced trade to a win for WPG. |

Draft, develop, manage the cap better -- I think E Kane and Bogo, as talented as they are, would be at most a very small (expensive) step forward. Probably more of a lateral move. |

I would think a healthy B Schenn vs an injured E Kane would be good enough for that piece of the deal. Hell... Throw in both Schenn's |

Agreed, but it's probably a 20-26 pick. Still nice, but not a lottery pick. |

If I'm Buffalo, i don't drop in that first -- that won't be the killer, but I wouldn't have done it
I don't think this is a deal that gets you fired, though, because Buffalo is simply brutal, no matter what. But they are getting a top five pick, and Bogo and Kane are NHL players. Stafford was soft and done there
The Jets should have solidified a playoff spot, Myers is signed, and they got prospects and the pick. If one of those other three assets pans out, Cheveldayoff is gold |

Yup, have to see who they end up getting with that pick. It just seemed to be too much considering the whole Kane drama in WPG. |

You are right about the $$$$$ . They are both expensive. But that's where the GM could try to move others. I have mentioned Streit before ( great player) but he could fetch a first from a contending team.
if Coburn,Striet, and Either Schenn or Grossman are moved that would be 13M in cap. I am sure they could get two half decent UFA's plus quality picks for initial trades |

thank you is hexstall doesn't get his ass in gear i think he should be fired he's no better than the other guy if he doesn't start acquiring assets - 2Real
I don't know what you do for a living but if your title isn't "NHL GM" your talents are being wasted. |

They have that extra first now so they could package to move up or even maybe get another asset for the playoffs.
