They currently aren't a playoff bubble team. They are pretty much out of the playoffs, and aren't likely going to make the playoffs unless they make a huge run, and a bunch of other teams falter. I think they should be a playoff bubble team and competing for a playoff spot. You just contradicted your own opinion with this post. - MJL
They are two spots out of a playoff spot as of today. 8 points back from the last wild card team. 8 points is a climb, but its not impossible at all. Thats bubble to me.
I didnt contradict myself at all. |

Prediction for how many games it will take Buffalo fans to:
1) Start ripping Bogosian as an over-hyped bust
2) Start ripping Kane for being lazy/immature/etc.
3) Start saying, "Why didn't Myers play like that when he was here?" |

fifteen seconds into the first shift of whichever of those players hits the ice first, it will begin.

It's funny how that stuff goes, because that's my entire thing about being a bad team vs. being a good team and why tanking is fool's gold
It's easy to be a really bad team and bring in players with high picks. And I know you talk about it and post examples about it, as well, but it's not nearly as easy to get those high picks to become good players AND be a good team
Tyler Myers is going to look better because he's going to a team that, after lean years of their own, is trying to become a good team
But look at how many years it has taken the Thrashers/Jets. They've made the playoffs once in 16 years. ONCE.
All that losing, the Kovalchuks and Heatleys and Lehtonens and Evander Kanes of the world got them to the playoffs ONCE.
People talk about how Winnipeg has an amazing farm system and that their future is bright and all, and I acknowledge they have talent and should make the playoffs.
But how much credit do you really deserve after making the playoffs ONCE IN 16 YEARS?
Who wants to do that? Who wants to be a poopty franchise for the majority of SIXTEEN YEARS just to win The Prospect Super Bowl?
I look at it totally differently. Yeah, maybe the Flyers and Jets are in the same place, or the Jets slightly ahead.
But how they got there is altogether different, and I'll take the Flyers way every day of the week. |

8 points is an immense hill to climb at this point. Look at the Flyers record in the last handful of games and see how much they gained. 8 points at this point of the season is a huge gap. You stated that the Flyers are a bad team. A team that is contending and challenging for a playoff spot is an average team. I've only ever said that I think the Flyers have the roster here to be in the playoff hunt. Right now, they're not, and they have underacheived to this point, in my opinion. Are the Flyers a bad team or a playoff bubble team? There's the contradiction. I know what I've stated what I think they should be this season, and that's a playoff team. Nothing more, nothing less. |

Conditional third round pick and Lindback going to Buffalo. I don't understand this trade. Even if you're taking Lindback in order to lose more games, couldn't you get a better pick than a conditional third? |

IIRC the Thrashers management/ownership got really bad at some point, so I guess that should be taken into consideration. Still, I agree. |

I think if the Sabers end up getting the first overall pick in the draft, along with the young talent they already have stalk piled, they are gonna wish they still had Tyler Myers. At least he can stay healthy and chances are he still has a lot more to give. IT wouldn't surprise me at all if he became the next Chara. |

So if the Flyers are doing it right - drafting and developing players, remaining competitive, etc - and they are all but guaranteed to miss the playoffs this season, how is trying to get the highest pick possible (call it tanking if you like) a bad thing?
We don't have to go back very far to see how winning meaningless games can dramatically change the player you are able to select in the draft.
As for the Thrashers/Jets, they deserve zero credit. Their franchise has already left their original city. That's pathetic with the draw of talent they've had.
A better question would be: other than being part of the NHL, what do the Jets and Flyers franchises have in common?
Also, is this site laggy as poop for anybody else? |

You gotta tank when the irons hot and the sabres understand that. Think of it this way. With this trade they've basically guaranteed themselves mceichel

I actually don't think this is a bad move at all for Buffalo. They got the two guys with the highest potential in the trade. Definitely assume a ton of risk with Bogo's injuries and Kane's attitude, but If either of them reach max potential, they'll win this trade. |
