Seems like there are multiple versions of these useless 3 stars selections.
On the French channel here in Quebec, they had the 3 stars as 1) Desharnais 2) Emery 3) Plekanec
Seems fair to me as the Flyers played a very good defensive game ... no shame in losing that one. They outplayed us in the 1st period and we then took over in the next 2. - Garfield512
That I would be fine with.. The 3 stars posted on line (the ones from the game), have all 3 Habs as stars which I think is insane as Emery was probably the 1st star. |

I was more thinking maybe he might actually have value to a playoff team. Maybe Vinny to Nashville for Stalberg. Something like that. - J35Bacher
I'm sure the suitors are knocking down the Flyers door trying to get their hands on such an effective, offensively-gifted player. |

MDZ screwed up that pass, but I don't like Vinny being out there in OT. His skating isn't good enough. I'd rather see Laughton with Bellemare if Berube has to go with four forward lines in OT. Ideally, Giroux and Voracek would be playing close to half of OT.
From memory last night it was:
Giroux-Voracek
Couturier-Read
Schenn-Simmonds
Bellemare-Lecavalier |

I'm sure Emery will write a stern-worded letter to the NHL. |

I'm not sure but I believe that a few years ago they had the fans voting online or something.
A lot of 12 year old kids kept voting for the star players regardless of their performance on that particular night ... heck they would probably have voted for the Youppi! mascot if they could.
These 3 stars selection are a joke and should be taken with a grain of salt. |

Umberger-Laughton-White (which is now the 4th line) only got 7-8 minutes of ES ice time last night.
They did have that glorious chance where Umberger streaked up the right wing like it was 2008, but Laughton hit the post. |

Oh I know that they are a joke now. They used to be reasonably well thought out it seems. Now it's pandering to the home fans. I think they should just get rid of them. |

But then the Flyers won't be able to give out that 3 Star Selection Trophy at the home finale. |

I only got to catch the 3rd period and OT but the last period reminded me of how the Flyers played "not to lose" rather than try to put it away.
When Emery plays that we'll you got to get him some goal support.
Not sure what I find more interesting. Emery 's play or the lone goal coming from, of all people, Matt Read. |

I didn't think it was them playing not to lose, I think it was more Montreal playing at peak performance. They're a very, VERY strong, fast team. The Flyers had no answer for them. |

Oh I know it's a long shot.
I am not sure if Stalberg is up with the big club yet and I think cap hit is about the same. Just think for a team like Nashville they might have some value in Vinny going into the playoffs since Lavy liked him.
Just a thought |

You're right, the Bellemare/VDV line has looked good lately, even with the cinder block they're dragging along. - jmatchett383
I think that Lecavalier has been playing well, getting in on the forecheck, making plays with the puck, working hard on the backcheck and in the defensive zone. I don't see him as a cinder block they're dragging along, but rather a part of a line that has been effective. |

I think he's been playing well, but not to the level that will make other teams want to take on that contract. |

I agree, it's just a waste of time.
I'll probably get flamed for this but I would get rid of the national anthems as well before the game. I'm as patriotic as the next guy but I don't see the point except during a time of war.
I usually just mute the sound and go to the fridge while they go through this useless ritual. |

If the Flyers could finish at all last night, they would have won going away.
They had plenty of chances. |

Yes, the line that he happens to be playing on does have 2 players making it look very good right now. |

What do you do with Bellemare? resign him (1 or 2 years?), trade him for a pick? |

Resign him for 2 years with a modest raise. That's a given, imo |

That would totally depend on what kind of moves are made, and how close to the cap ceiling the Flyers are. He's one of the more affordable pieces on the team, and the Flyers might need that. I think he'll be back next year. |

Habs are all about speed, you need a good mobile D group to counter that. Once in their D zone, Habs aren't as good, you just got to solve Price...easier said than done most night. Not sure that will be enough in the playoffs but it works most night during the regular season |

The problem, at least for the Flyers, is gaining their zone with the puck. The Habs totally shut down their transition game last night. |

I agree... I think it's something that has become a ritual, and really not much more. At home, I usually flip the channel or leave the room, and when I'm at a game, I kinda just blank out... Sorry.. I've had numerous family members serve, and I work with active and ex-military every day for my job... I am NOT "unpatriotic", I just don't see it's point anymore at a sporting event.
Again.. no offense to anyone.. but it personally means nothing to me anymore. It is not a measure of my pride in my country, nor my patriotism. It's simply a ritual anymore. Who (other than maybe vets) actually stands there reflecting upon our freedom, the sacrifices made to secure our freedom, etc when it's playing? Don't lie... I'd bet most don't... they're checking out the hot girl singing, or looking around wondering who has the good smelling food, or watching the flashy lights, or looking around the arena at the banners, or wondering "wow.. that jumbotron is really big and is only held up by a few cables".. |
