What I like is Meyers being in Winnipeg over Bogasian. Bogisian is a far superior dman who has never fully realized his offensive capability. Meyers is good, but he is so easy to knock off of the puck. Meyers will be hurt playing in the West in short order. Which is good because Winnipeg is a dangerous team.
Other than that Winnipeg is hands down the winner of this trade. Unless Kane suddnly grows up, which is always possible. But keep in mind the people of Buffalo will not keep their arms opened if he pulls some of the same antics as he did, especially with all that was given up to obtain him.
Suddenly Winnipeg has more forward depth. Armania is scary. Truth be told I would rather have him, Lemiux and whatever first rounder on my team than Kane.
Buffalo frees themselves of Meyers and gets a legitimate top two dman and a winger who can score if he can focus on hockey and stay healthy.
Sorry Buffalo fans. I really liked Kane as a player a few years ago. Maybe it has been the shoulder? But he did not look good or stay healthy the past two seasons and we got to see more of him in the West. If he is engaged he is a power forward with superior speed, great on the forecheck and if you can get him the puck in transition he can be a deadly sniper. He has some creativity but his vision is just plus, considering the best vision in the game is the other Kane.
What could really be a coup is when the Black Hawks flunder in the post season and the cap does not go up much. Then let the Kane for Kane plus rumors begin. and the thoughts of McDavid and Pat Kane on the same line. That is as long as McDavid or Eichel do not end up another Stefan or Diagle.

Leafs fans are just jealous. But they might get a good start on the rebuild by moving Kessel to Arizona. |

Sabres get 2 former top 5 draft selections. Who are probably the 2 best players now AND moving forward in this deal. - Losman
Woooo. Wait a second. Myers isn't a top pairing defenseman anymore signed to the best contract in the league!?!?!?!? When did this change?!?!?! |

The only way that would have happened is if they drafted nothing but wingers, had no defensive prospects or goaltending prospects and after a single season signed the rookies to long term big money contracts.
So actually no. While I hate the tank job the Sabres will not end up like the Oilers even if one of their top picks goes bust. |

No one actually believes Meyers is like Chara. You cannot hit Chara in open ice and watch Chara fall like a rotted tree, now Meyers on the other hand... |

Brutal trade for Buffalo. Gave up way too much.
Sabres fans are excited about Kane but say Roy was a cancer in the room.. mind boggling.
GARTH is still thinking Myers will get Mantha lolol - jbold
Buffalo gets the best two players in the deal, they gave up a lot, but long term it'll look better for them. |

Garth mentioned Kane lining up with McDavid or Eichel and Moulson... Who knows if Eichel will even be ready to play in the NHL right away next season. And after next year, Kane only has another year left on his deal if I'm not mistaken. And we all know he won't stay in Buffalo. Stop acting like the Sabres will be a threat any time soon, let alone in the next 5 years. |

McDavid and Eichel will be ready to play next season, players of their calibre usually are. |

It is not that easy to say. McDavid is not a big guy. Look at Drouin, everyone said he would play last year. Then you hear the pundits and scouts say Pat Kane and Perron back in 2007 are two to three years away from playing in the NHL. The both played the same season they were drafted.
You also have to see how the team looks going into next season. Do you want to have a young player learning to win or to lose? That was oart of Edmonton's problem rushing players. Yes they were skilled enough for the NHL but the transition should be smoother. The Sabres next season will have three to four young centers ready for the NHL. All very talented but inexperienced. That is a recipe for an up and down season. Who will be their goaltender how does the defense look? If you consider the best way to build a team is down the center. They will have the pieces but the pieces will not yet be ripe. |

this is hilarious. so winnipeg's second pairing defenseman is now better than myers who almost all of you were calling a top pairing defenseman on a better team?
Honestly, the turn around is mind boggling.
Big trade for the Jets. Huge gamble at a high cost for the sabres. I like the odds for the Jets in this one, Buffalo looks like they got taken.

Another 3 years after this one left on his contract. And with how things are looking who in their right mind wouldn't want to stay in Buffalo on what is soon to be one of the youngest teams in the NHL that will be in the playoffs and competing for the cup for the next 10+years? Also, it is not acting when something is fact. |

Let it go. Not everyone was that high on Myers. Not to mention this is like your 5th comment amongst the blogs on HB today so I think your point is conveyed and you can put it to rest now. |

Seriously though, aren't you at all worried that you've traded a boatload for a guy who really doesn't seem all that interested in becoming a better hockey player and team guy? |

They must make some really really good Kool aide in Buffalo because Sabres fans drink it by the gallon. |

Why can't you just worry about your own team? Why do people who aren't Sabres fans give a crap about what we think? More importantly, why do you think we care about what you have to say? |

I have been reading that Lemiuex was not signing in Buffalo, so this is a great deal (knowing that info, which I am sure Murray knew).
The Sabres will be miles better next season, was that not the goal to be better, sooner? We just did that. By miles, I think.
Now they just need to stay the course and do maybe one more of these type of deals (to get a top 6 forward) to go along with everything else and we will be in the fast lane to the playoffs.
Go Sabres! |
