Debating the value of Leafs prospects using Habs as reference points.... FINALLY! Please post some more - we're lost without Hab comparables. - 1979AD
i used Gallagher as an example because he was similar to Brown: late round pick, big scorer in junior, undersized. he made it to the NHL but he never would have made it purely as a scorer. |

the only reason i say that is because he was a 6th round pick. never seen the guy play in my life. generally speaking, the guys drafted in rounds 5-6-7 are limited skill wise, particularly in terms of quickness (foot speed, shot release, reaction time) - DoubleDown
So how is Datsyuk good then? He was a 7th is he garbage to. Nyquist was a 4th rounder seems to be a nhler now. |

Hey we can all hope. Just like we hoped for mckegg, and biggs, and ross, granberg etc.
My point is how are our prospects so poope when we've finished so low for years? - clark_griswold
Mckegg is still young and still has a good chance of becoming an NHL player. Biggs sucks. Ross is pretty poop. Granberg is a bust now too? You preach patients but don't have any. |

The Wings scouting staff is much better than the Leafs...no doubt about it. |

His offensive skill has never been a question. He was almost ppg on a terrible team in his OHL rookie season. He fell so much because he wouldn't know there was a zone outside of the offensive zone if he didn't have to take draws at center ice from time to time... Part of his development has been to round out his game. |

Biggs is actually good if you watch the marlies hes just not a scorer he can be a very good 4th liner hes fast, big and can it and he does have a good shot. Just because you hear other people say he sucks doesn't mean he sucks. |

Hmmm, I wonder how many points Connor McDavid helped him out with. - dom13
His totals went up while McDavid was playing in the Word Juniors, so there's that. |

And how do you know this? So any player that is good in the AHL means they cant be a NHLer your not making sense. Look at Nyquist and his rookie year in the AHL. - jake24242
for every nyquist...there are 100 corey lockes |

you could be right. but he's still a long shot to be a top 6 NHLer and he's nowhere near Nylander in terms of potential. |

Who had hope for Biggs?
And why give up on McKegg?
Guy's 22, and wasn't ever expected to be more than a 2nd liner.
The majority of prospects become busts. But the Leafs have a lot of good prospects on the blue-line, a very good goalie prospect in Bibeau, and some high-end skill up front in guys like Nylander, Brown, and Johnsson. - Feeling Glucky?
yet we are consitently ranked in the bottom 5 of every major prospect rating guide/site whatever. And they DON"T hate the leafs.
Nylander i've only seen play a few times. Brown again i have formed my opinion from experience. |

If their scouting staff thought he'd be the player he is today, they wouldn't have waited till the 7th round to take him. |

again....these are exceptions to the rule. Evidence supports opposite your point of view in overwhelming numbers. Im not telling you not to hope..but if you expect he'll be a top 6 guy you will most likely be dissapointed. |

i didn't say dump them. I said they aren't franchise altering prospects. As in...our rebuild isn't any more solid with them than without them. But that's just me. I know you are an optimistic guy and that's your right. |

Agreed I just have seen him alot and think he is the real deal. The numbers are against him but IMO he will be a top 6 in the NHL at some point. |

19th isn't great, but it's not bottom-5, either.

As a current transplant citizen of the GTA, it would be inspiring for me to see the Leafs actually NOT be incredibly poopty. I would love to see this town buzzing and going nuts because of playoff madness. Many of my my friends are die-hard Leaf fans, and I often have to ask them why? 99% of the time it's just because "they're the home team", which is admirable, but stupid. Blind loyalty isn't loyalty. As a lifelong Habs fan, I find solace in the fact that Montreal while obviously not winning the cup lately, has taken the RIGHT steps to build a team, draft properly, and for the most part, go out and find good character guys to do whatever it takes to win. It seems to me, for the most part, and this is just my take on it, some players have almost held themselves hostage and demanded to be overpayed for their services. How else can someone logically explain the money Gardiner and Clarkson make? Phaneuf? Even Reimer makes too much, especially for his skill level. He's been outright pathetic at times. Every team makes their mistakes, it's inevitable, but it seems like the Leafs are that popular kid in class that just kind of screws around until the last minute, and just tries to whip somethin together in the final hours and hope it all works out in the end. Sometimes it does. Most times it doesn't. |

And I think that in addition to Nylander both Leivo and Brown fall into that category. - Feeling Glucky?
I don't think that's a reasonable expectation.
