If their scouting staff thought he'd be the player he is today, they wouldn't have waited till the 7th round to take him. - Feeling Glucky?
that's unfair. obviously they didn't know 100% (how many players in a draft are sure things? 5? 6?) but they knew damn well that there was potential there and they get credit for that. as for WHERE he was drafted, why draft a guy in round 2 or 3 when you know he'll be there in round 6 or 7? i think there are a lot of players in those later rounds who, if they weren't taken by their team, wouldn't have been taken at all. |

Wasn't Andrew McWilliam a hot item this time last year? Our stay at home D man with a mean streak? Don't hear much about him no more... - dom13
+13 in 42 games.
don't hear much about him cause he;s a stay at home D and he's behind Holzer and Granberg on the depth chart in that department.
having a fine season though. He's at best a Polak one day, if his skating improves massively.

I think detroit's developmental system should get a tone more credit than the scouts... and having the patience to wait for the player to actually develop. |

And here's the problem we have. All these guys mentioned, with the exception of Nylander (i see a very good second line / potentially top line winger) are all role players IF they turn out.
Those are fine if you have a core team in place. We are starting over and basically have nylander and Rielly. So to answer this thread's original question...we are VERY bad. |

he's all we got. And to be honest it's not his fault...but i put much more faith in a top centre or D than a winger. Again, not his fault but the overall outlook for our future is bleak....but i guess can only get better |

I think we have a few more very good D prospects as well. several with top 4 potential. but I agree forwards are very thin.
all this is arguing over some of saying we have 1 forward prospect, and others saying we have 2 more.
Not 1 damn person here thinks we have more than 3. on this we can agree
But hopefully that number doubles over the next 5 months |

Leafs need to acquire picks. high picks, low picks, whatever. their goal should be 9-10 picks in the next few drafts. allows you to swing for the fences on some pick and bring in some boom-bust prospects in addition to the safe picks (Gauthier). that's why i thought the Bolland trade was so reckless and egregious on Nonis's part. he traded almost had a draft for the guy. teams should rarely go into a draft with fewer than 6 picks. |

those 2 will be very easy to sign in the summer if you trade them. they're going to the highest bidder. and after trading Phaneuf/Kessel cap space won't be an issue. i think Winnik especially is a good guy to keep around for that. |

Brown and Johanson are top 6 and he will be a marlie at the end of the year im sure. - jake24242
Saw Brown in 2 playoff games against Guelph last year, and unless his skating has gotten a LOT better, I wouldn't count on him making it to full time NHLer.
You could tell the heart was there, but not the legs.

They'll trade a couple UFA's, Fire Horachek and Nonis in the off-season, hire a new GM, draft 9th, hire a new coach, sign some bargain basement guys.
No other changes.
We'll be having this conversation again this time next year. |

19th in hockey's future. We'll see what THN ranks us. 19th is terrible for our poope decade. just inexcusable |

Too many players miscast in their roles for where they are in their development. Yes, development. Players are always developing. Trade to the right team and they will thrive. As a group they don't work.
