Where did you get that from? I actually said I like him more than Myers and my point is that Kane is a strange choice to have young players developing around or fill a leadership role for developing young players(which I've read quite a few times already)? This trade doesn't make you guys a playoff team next year not even close. Not saying that he couldn't make some trades before the season to maybe speed it up but you're talking about adding quite a bit between now and then. Realistically you guys have another 2-3 years at least IMO before you're competing again. Kane and Bogosian are not players that are going to jump start you're drive back to competitiveness unless they both show a level of play they haven't shown once in their careers.

The team as is will definitely not make the playoffs.... But I have a feeling after seeing these trades that Timmy isn't content going into next season with just this and whoever we draft at number one or two.

I mean no one thought the Islanders would be as good as they have been. I don't expect them to suddenly be a contender but they will definitely look like an actual NHL team next season.

Look at this any way you want, Winnipeg wins because they already had lost Kane. The team and the player dug themselves into a hole no one could get out of.

Those who criticize Myers only need to look where he was playing.

- elcabong

He wasn't very good his sophomore or 3rd year hear either.... The Sabres weren't terrible or even a below average team at the time. In fact many Sabres fans felt he was having his best season this year since his rookie year.

In my opinion Myers is hyped up because of his size. I wanted him out. But I thought we would be able to fleece a team that believed in his potential. That obviously didn't happen.

What has Kane done to have so many peoples admiration? Both in the media, and in the fanatics... He has only been a point per game kinda guy once (last year of junior), and outside of one year in the nhl where he produced as a top 6 guy (57 points) he has literally done nothing except build a crappy reputation about his attitude. There's a reason he had been playing on Winnipeg's 3rd line.....

And before I get the "If the Leafs traded for him you'd be singing a different tune" response, I wouldn't want him. We have him in Kadri, and Kadri has never performed as well as our fan base would have liked - Kane is the same way. Scored 30 goals one year, and no more than 19 any other. There's a lot better character guys that can score 19 goals a season... Jesus, even Clarkson is on pace for 15 this year and our fan base hates him...

- tonye25

Idk many big big names out there think he is going to become a annual 30 goal guy... This season he was playing the shutdown role on the third line. His two way play is very underrated

I wouldnt say no one did. Most people that had an even minimal understanding of thr islanders knew theyd be competitive and make the playoffs. The problem is nobody had an even minimal understanding of what the islanders already had especially most yahoos on hockeybuzz.

The way i look at it is we still have lots of assets. Lots of teams will be having cap issues like you said. So I really think he is going to bring in a lot of new faces over the offseason.

Half the guys on the team will not be hear next year. We already got rid of three.

New faces already in the organization that will be on the team next year most likely will be Reinhart, Pysyk, Grigs, and the 1st overall pick from this year. Plus now kane and bogs. That already is a completely different team

- Smittyx36

different yes, nowhere near a playoff team though.

After the trades for leddy and boychuk I was pretty sure we’d be at least top three in our division.

It depends what they do with that other 1st rd pick. If they move it for another established winger it does not look so bad.

thats the point. I dont think people realize that the Sabres you see right now will not be the same team next season.

If McDavid and Eichel are as good as everyone is saying the will immediately come in and impact the team. Plus Reinhart will be NHL ready + Kane. So those three guys right there alone take this team out of 30th and make them better

I know, all the hockey guys seem to love Kane. I just don't see it myself. I really think the media would be looking at him differently if he was coming to Toronto. The focus wouldn't be on his future potential, but on his attitude and inability to hold down a top line role and duplicate his success from '11-'12...

Good luck to Buffalo with him. Hopefully he is less injury prone and scores to the potential you traded for.

A lot of people are saying eichel may need some more time to develop so ... Goaltending? Defense?

The Oilers are only 4 points worse than you. Maybe they'll trade for a worse goalie and an injured player too?!?!?!

Sabres FTW: they consolidate some prospects into a slightly older, more proven Kane. Maybe he's a d-bag, maybe he's not, but the guy is a legit NHL winger. Bogosian vs. Myers is close to a wash. Also, by unloading Stafford, they get slightly worse in the short run which helps to lock down a top-2 pick.

For the Jets, they got a nice return for Kane theoretically, but all they got that can help them right now is Stafford. If I'm the Jets, I am going all-out to make the playoffs and Joel Armia, Claude Lemieux's kid, and a late 2015 1st round pick does not help that cause one bit. Now if they turn around and get, say, Doan and/or Vermette from the Yotes with parts from that haul, then they become the big winner.

the jets are a good team because they are hard to play against.. and with this trade they got softer.. Myers is for the most part not a hitter (and when he hits half the time it is a penalty) and stafford is not a physical force..
