Corret and OUt GM said he is going to use those assets to acquire now talent which he did.
I cant really speak to EDM but they seem to have held on to vets for a bit too long and then thrown kinds into positions they were not ready for.
IMO, they need to clean the entire thing out in Mgmt. Even though the GM has only been on for a short time. - ImThatGuy
Edmonton kept signing marginal ufas and trying to get them to play well above what they are, and didn’t provide their kids with any real solid vet help. They’re a wild offseason or two away from being a lot better but they didn’t do a good job of building a solid foundation and adding to it with a plan. It’s seemed to be a lot more of trying to fit a round peg in a square hole.
Don’t get me wrong with the sabres, you’re on the right track and I don’t think your rebuild will take the epic length ours did, but I also think expecting them to almost double their point totals next season and be close to the playoffs is a wildly unrealistic expectation. It’s probably 2-3 years away, but if your pick this year is as good as expected, it could be two years rather than three.
I really think some of you guys have written kane in for 30 next year which is going to be expecting a LOT. I’d be happy with 20 and a shift in attitude and see where it goes from there.

we are talking about tavares right, another player that writers were questioning if he would go number 1 or not on draft night as well - homiedclown
You're joking right? There is always debate to make the draft interesting. You did't actually believe that did you? Look at Tavares's junior career and compare it to Gretzky's then come back and tell me you believed that. |

Remember when we were all dismissing the idea that Kane would ever come here and why would we even want him. |

I am not going to comment on next year until i see what happens with the off-season.
Kane to me is a wild card. He is going to be playing with either Reinhart or McEichel.
It will be good for both sides. Kane gets a stout center and McEichel/Reinhart gets the "protection" of Kane.
Whether that leads to 30 goal seasons, who knows. but I for one hope it does. |

They have all the right to lose it, but to this non-informed poster who sees very little of Edm, they don't appear to be much closer then they were 2-3 years ago.
The glut of prospects coming up will possibly change that. But you cant be entirely sure. Do you wait on that and hope? Or do you "Re-tool" with a different vision because I don't think it would be a total rebuild. |

Compare them ok sure.
At 16-17 Gretzky had 182 points, Tavares had 134.

05-06 Sabres. That's who they are.
Thin defense, great forward depth - sbroads24
Didn't you also say that you'd get a massive overpayment for Myers or he wouldn't be moved? Boychuck is overrated(has better numbers than Mcdonagh) and we overpaid? Overpaid for Leddy with Pokka? Islander won't make the playoffs? Girardi is better than ANY Islanders defenseman( :lol . You haven't been right about much for a while now. |

Weren't you and DD saying they weren't going to be last this year too?
And I'm not knocking you, I thought the same after Nolan was originally brought in to replace Rolston |

Exceptional status. Do you think ANY team would have take Hedman or Duschene over Tavares? Tavares broke Wayne Gretzky’s Ontario Hockey League record for goals as a 16-year-old. |

absolutely. all indications are- murray doesnt want another bottom 5 finish next year, he hates darcys players, hes willing to move picks/prospects for young players that are farther along in their development (that fit his idea of what the team should be), and he has tons of cap room. lots of changes coming. no idea what names will be here next year, especially up front and in net. |

Sweet he broke a record. They are meant to be broken, he still fell 48 points shy of what Gretzky put up at 16-17.
At 17-18 Gretzky was playing against men in the WHA while Tavares was scoring less against boys.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. But I see where you're coming from.
It's an exciting time to be a Sabres fan, that's for sure. I haven't felt like this since 06. |

Of course. Next time you should try hitting enter instead of putting those across the screen . You're missing the point. I'm not saying Tavres is better than Gretzky I'm saying there was not one team who would have chosen Hedman or Duschene over him. |

No. I'm saying there wasn't a team that would have chosen anyone else over Tavares first overall. No one is comparing Tavares to gretzky I'm comparing him to the other picks HIS DRAFT YEAR!!!!!! wtf |

I won't disagree at all on this one, I think the point was not expecting 54 points out of Reinhart his first year. He's going to be good, but when you start expecting that from rookies it leads to disappointment more often than not. |

I just can't believe you said look at their Jr careers.
Tavares had 2 more goals in 3 more games and 48 less points!
Next time find a different comparison. |
