I'm a huge Vanek fan, and I think he has that ability, but he would need better linemates than he had to ALWAYS be that kind of guy (like what the Sabres are building up to now - imagine Kane-Reinhart/McEichel-Vanek???).

Not that he already isn't getting headlines, but now with Kane gone, Kessel is going to lead that talk, I think.

Deslauriers is player X, I knew I was forgetting someone. Larsson wouldn't have much say in the matter. And realistically, until yesterday, sabres trading for kane was a pipe dream.

He does have a say. He's an RFA this year with serious questions as to where he belongs. If he doesn't like what he hears, he may ask to get traded.

That's where I differ. I want ONE guy like that on "my" team. I don't want a team full of 2-way players who suffer offensively for it. Give me 1 stud offensive guy who teams have to fear will score on them at any moment. The Sabres haven't had that since....

I guess u could argue whether of not Kane & Reinhart are that guy
I don't think they're at the level of Kessel, but they're dynamic offensively all the same

When building a cup team, the "Kessels" really aren't there lately
Chicago has pat Kane, who I think is the type guy you're talking about...
But I wouldn't say LA or Boston have anyone like that
