Bourque better/more important player than Hasek to their respective cup winning teams? Both had to leave their poop teams to win a cup but that Colorado team was as stacked as they come. Of course one's a goalie and one a Defenseman, but what did Bourque ever really do for Boston? 1700p on an original six franchise in a large market but no cup. Hasek played for a small market team and VISA commercial.

not Darcy, don't be negative - SABRES 89[ he built this franchise according to some
Courtesy of Wikipedia
In his years in Buffalo, he has been in charge when the Sabres drafted and developed such players as Maxim Afinogenov, Henrik Tallinder, Aleš Kotalík, Ryan Miller, Paul Gaustad, Derek Roy, Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek. He has also made some important acquisitions as well, such as trading for Chris Drury, Tim Connolly, Daniel Brière and Jean-Pierre Dumont while trying to maintain a strict budget.
Never said he"built the franchise".
However, I did say that he built some very exciting, and very entertaining hockey clubs for which he does not get enough credit for being on the strict budget he was on.
Some of you claim that I continue on and on, but factually speaking, I am only replying to what is posted directly at or about me.
Stop beating that dead horse and perhaps I would have no need to participate.

How about the trade to actually get Hasek in blue and gold?
Stefan Beauregard - Stripes77
Ruuttu for Beauregard (Winnipeg didn't want to lose him in the expansion draft)
Beauregard for Hasek
Beauregard for Ruuttu(Chicago tried to get him earlier in the year)
Lyle Richardson is speculating that Washington could go after RW, and mentions Tlusty from Carolina as a good fit.
The Caps bargaining chip... Burmistrov
Says they're also interested in Stewart
If we can get Burmistrov for Stewart I'd REALLY like that
Even if we have to add a 2nd or something like that

And when the strict budget went away he paid Ville Leino and Christian Ehrhoff both of whom are being paid millions of dollars NOT to play hockey for the Buffalo Sabres.

Hašek was traded to the Buffalo Sabres for goalie Stephane Beauregard and future considerations, which later materialized into a draft pick used to obtain Éric Dazé

Any future success the Sabres have will partly be BC of Darcy
Anyone who tries to deny that is foolish
The trades he made while selling off our assets were nothing short of BRILLIANT
Murray has mentioned multiple times how the cupboard was fully stocked with picks & good prospects when he got here.
If Murray can see that,
I think we should recognize it as well

Last year’s trades for the blues and isles 1sts prove he’s not a dummy, but this trade makes him look like a bit of a riverboat gambler. Interesting anyway.

Darcy did do a good job of getting what he could out of trades, what he failed to do however was pull the trigger on a trade at the deadline to push the Sabres over the hump...Bob Corkum anyone?
Darcy was always afraid of moving prospects and picks he didn't do the bold move to help the team win and win now.
While Murray inherited a ton of picks and prospects that were acquired under Darcy because Darcy failed to rebuild the core and then realized he has to tear down the entire team due to his poor judgment in turning the team over to Derek Roy, Thomas Vanek and Drew Stafford. So yes while Murray is enjoying the fruits of Darcy so to say its because Darcy set the team up to fail and ownership told him to tear it all down.

Leino was obv a bust, but Darcy was "going for it" an when Richards Fd us, Leino was the next best target... That said, horrible horrible deal
The Ehrhoff signing was outstanding
Murray IMO screwed that up when he bought him out... We could've gotten a good return for him. I understand he was worries about the possibility of the "cap recapture" penalty... But I still think it was a big mistake.
1) players rarely retire with years left on their contracts
2) we're doubtful to be near the cap to the point where it would really hurt us (it's gonna take years for our young guys to work their way towards huge contracts)

But I am not focusing on the after which some with tunnel vision seem to want to do.
I am saying that there are some posters here that simply refuse to give the man any credit at all which is absurd and yet give all the respect in the world to an unproven nobody rookie GM in Murray which is mind blowing in it of itself.
That being said, I also remember a lot of people on here and in Sabre land that were very happy with the Leino and Ehrhoff signings.
Some people here fought for Ehrhoff like he was their father.
Some moves work and some moves don't work out, it's the life of a GM in any sport.
The problem with Darcy in the end , just like Lindy, he had worn out his welcome and the owner felt the pressure to finally let him go as well as Lindy previous to Darcy.
Some of the deals that Darcy made or was able to swing were fantastic.
Gaustad for a 1st round pick is up there as maybe one of the best.
