Any future success the Sabres have will partly be BC of Darcy
Anyone who tries to deny that is foolish
The trades he made while selling off our assets were nothing short of BRILLIANT
Murray has mentioned multiple times how the cupboard was fully stocked with picks & good prospects when he got here.
If Murray can see that,
I think we should recognize it as well

- jdfitz77

darcy did a good job selling off players for assets. Murray was able to put his label on the team and we still have tons of assets left.

Leino was obv a bust, but Darcy was "going for it" an when Richards Fd us, Leino was the next best target... That said, horrible horrible deal
The Ehrhoff signing was outstanding
Murray IMO screwed that up when he bought him out... We could've gotten a good return for him. I understand he was worries about the possibility of the "cap recapture" penalty... But I still think it was a big mistake.
1) players rarely retire with years left on their contracts
2) we're doubtful to be near the cap to the point where it would really hurt us (it's gonna take years for our young guys to work their way towards huge contracts)

- jdfitz77

We are not at that point. We will see it happen in 2-3 years with Gaborik, Richards, Carter, Brown, Weber, Hossa.

These contracts that were signed 3-4 years ago that are taking guys until they are 40.

Ehrhoffs penalty would have been until 2022 and over $4MM per once he retired. It was a huge gamble.

You might be one of the few that thinks buying out Ehrhoff was a mistake.

Look at his production on the Penguins...

I liked eric...I thought he might turn into a consistent goal scoring power forward. whoops.
- Isles_since_6

8 22+ goal seasons in a row isn't consistent?

It is too bad his back failed him.

Last year’s trades for the blues and isles 1sts prove he’s not a dummy, but this trade makes him look like a bit of a riverboat gambler. Interesting anyway.
- Isles_since_6

He didn't trade for the Islanders pick though, Darcy did.

There is no doubt Darcy had some good trades. But overall he failed as a GM.

He never was able to make a trade to get over the hump.

Ehrhoff isn't lighting it up in Pittsburgh which surprises me.

Maybe he saw something we didn't in his play?

Ehrhoff was terrible last year. I think most of us chalked it up to him not wanting to be here.

Possibly its something more?

He is getting paid by two teams right now. By one to play hockey for and by one to NOT play hockey for.

He just doesn't seem interested in playing the game and it started 2 years ago IMO

Most times it was because there were strict financial guidelines set, otherwise known as a budget by owners previous to the Pegula's.
These blueprints are all Darcy's , not Murray's.

Darcy did do a good job of getting what he could out of trades, what he failed to do however was pull the trigger on a trade at the deadline to push the Sabres over the hump...Bob Corkum anyone?

Darcy was always afraid of moving prospects and picks he didn't do the bold move to help the team win and win now.

While Murray inherited a ton of picks and prospects that were acquired under Darcy because Darcy failed to rebuild the core and then realized he has to tear down the entire team due to his poor judgment in turning the team over to Derek Roy, Thomas Vanek and Drew Stafford. So yes while Murray is enjoying the fruits of Darcy so to say its because Darcy set the team up to fail and ownership told hiam to tear it all down.

- Stripes77

He was kind of forced to turn the team over to those guys
He was told he could keep Drury OR Briere, NOT BOTH
he thought he had a deal with Drury, & then Quinn Fd it all up by not allowing the paperwork to be completed
Drury got pissed & walked
None of that was Darcy's fault

As far as a trade to put us over the top...
1) those rarely work out... For every Carter & Richards to LA, there's 10 other playoff teams that made deals & didn't win the Cup
2) there might not have been a reasonable deal to make... How did giving up Forsberg for Erat work for the Caps? But at least they "went for it"
F that
3) I'd consider getting zubris for a 1st the type of move you're talking about...
4) again, those deals rarely work

And Darcy had those pieces to sell off BC he got them here to begin with

"Bold" moves don't equal "good" moves btw
