Even if he gets traded & it's by another team?
And what did the end of ehrhoffs deal look like?
I don't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't as bad as the Hossa contract, was it?

- jdfitz77

It was the same. It was $1MM for the last 3 years.

Crazy how a guy with that kind of success gets forgotten. I completely forgot how many goals he scored, I just remembered all his back issues
- Isles_since_6

Yeah he was slow as molasses though.

Could chip it in standing in front of the net and had a hell of a shot.

It effects the team that signed him to the contract not the team he plays for when he retires.

Hossa and Ehrhoff both had extremely front loaded contracts. The cap hit would be pretty significant for both players if they retired early.

Depends on the way the trades are structured.

Incorrect. There is no way to change the wording of the CBA on recapture penalty based on the wording of a trade

He could have had Briere for 5 mil for 5 years. Briere was the guy to keep there not Drury. That is huge mistake one.

How about saying he would match any offer for Thomas Vanek. Huge mistake two.

How about letting BOTH Briere and Drury walk for NOTHING. Huge mistake three.

His biggest knock is he held on too long for too much for "his" players and it bite him in the a$$ over and over again.

Not making bold moves does not mean its a win if you're too chicken sh!t to make a move to at least attempt to make the team better.

How about a Mark Recchi type move? How about adding blue line depth?

Take away Hasek (who was here before Darcy)and catching lightning in a bottle the first 2 years out of lockout (which he failed to put them over the hump) Darcy is a failure.

Darcy got lucky the NHL changed rules and when the league went back he was too far behind the 8 ball to catch up.

- Stripes77

95% of ppl on here thought Drury was the one to keep
I remember this BC it was me & about 2 others that said we should keep Briere

Again, he was hamstrung by Quinn that led to the loss of Briere & Drury.
I don't blame that on Darcy at all
He had a deal worked out to keep Drury

Btw,
Who traded for Drury & Briere to begin with?

Did Darcy ultimately fail?
Yes, we didn't win a Cup

Acting like he do nothing right is ridiculous though

Minnesota is effed. Probably going to have 12MM in cap penalties once Suter and Parise retire.

We needed a guy back there that can't stop the puck. Lindback does that better than anyone not named Andre Racicot.

Look at the links I posted.

If Mike Richards were traded and then retired LA would be on the hook for $1.07 times 5 years and the team trading for him/waiver claim would be on the hook for 250k times 5.

Taken the rick knowing your young guns would need significant pay raises around the time he'd retire?

I really don't think you're thinking this one completely through.

Like I said, I'll believe these guys will retire & leave $$$ on the table when I see it

You'd actually run the risk of having $10 mil of dead space do to recapture penalty in 2020 on Ehrhoff if he were to retire from another team?

He'd be leaving 1 mil on the table.

Yes because the trade happened before the 2013 CBA. That is the only stipulation I see there

Franzen wasn't traded why is he on there then?

It is a hypothetical illustration of how it would work.

All the players with recapture contracts fall under this. The reason Philly is off the hook is do to the players being moved prior to the new CBA.

Answered above also

Luongo has salary retained so both Vancouver and Florida get hit with it.

Like I said it depends on the details of the trade.

In his years in Buffalo, he has been in charge when the Sabres drafted and developed such players as Maxim Afinogenov, Henrik Tallinder, Aleš Kotalík, Ryan Miller, Paul Gaustad, Derek Roy, Jason Pominville and Thomas Vanek. He has also made some important acquisitions as well, such as trading for Chris Drury, Tim Connolly, Daniel Brière and Jean-Pierre Dumont while trying to maintain a strict budget.

Never said he"built the franchise".

However, I did say that he built some very exciting, and very entertaining hockey clubs for which he does not get enough credit for being on the strict budget he was on.
Some of you claim that I continue on and on, but factually speaking, I am only replying to what is posted directly at or about me.

Stop beating that dead horse and perhaps I would have no need to participate.

Most times it was because there were strict financial guidelines set, otherwise known as a budget by owners previous to the Pegula's.
These blueprints are all Darcy's , not Murray's.

IMO, the GM just builds the winner. The coach and the players ultimately failed. I don't think you can measure success strictly by Stanley Cups. The Penguins are a great example of that. Crosby and Malkin have 1 cup. Does that mean they are forever successful? Or are they "failing" every year? I know one thing, they are in a position to win it every year and thats all you can hope for.

I think they are failing to live up to expectations. It was on Darcy to not be proactive to get depth defensemen when ours were getting hurt. You can't play with severe injuries and you can't coach players that aren't on the ice.
