That stat is not even fair but I understand its what you people that dislike Nolan have as ammo.

The knock on Nolan has always been he hasn't been able to work well with really talented players. The documented disaster between him and Hasek is well known, but the fact of the matter is, he went only one game above .500 with the best goaltender on the planet, and he went 9 games under .500 in a year where he had a healthy LaFontaine and Hasek. The year he barely squeezed into 8th place because Toronto choked things away, because, well, they're Toronto, DiPietro played well above his career average.

Ted Nolan has had success at lower levels. That doesn't mean he's a good NHL coach. And the stats pretty much show that to be the case. It's the same as many great college football coaches not being very good in the NFL (Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier, etc.). It's about knowing how to deal with men versus knowing how to deal with boys. Ted Nolan is much better suited for the latter.

Not when Murray says he couldnt get Kane without including Myers.

The tertiary pieces are marginal at best... a UFA Stafford, might not even sign in WPG. Becomes a lost piece. Armia could have an impact on the trade, but if he doesnt even come close to the player Kane was, its not even a wash. Lemieux is scoring goals in juniors but leaves a lot to be desired about his game in a lot of areas. I doubt he becomes anything more than a bottom 6 player in the NHL. A late 1st is a late 1st.

This trade ultimately came down to Myers, Armia for Kane, Bogosian.

I like Nolan. I'm in the majority where I don't think he can coach this team to greatness. But I like him and I only wish him the best. Murray's comments left me to believe he's as good as gone within one year's time.

I think it's unfair to analyze the pieces right now, but if you're looking at face value of today, yea, this is what it comes down to. Short term, Sabres ravaged this trade. Which was our goal. Kudos to Tim.

And the thing just about all of those players have in common is that they haven't won many championships at the NHL level, if any at all. When players who have won championships at the NHL level tell me he's a great coach, then I will listen. I want championships, not feel good stories, which is pretty much all you ever hear about the guy.

Chevy came out and said he wanted Myers. Murray said he couldnt get Kane without Myers being included in the deal. Murray said if he was dealing with any other GM he probably couldve given up different prospects, but Chevy was locked in on Armia and Lemiuex. Murray acknowledged that we are loaded in prospects and it was time to start upgrading the team.

At the end of the day Murray swapped a top pairing D for a top pairing D AND picked up his top 6 winger for pieces he doesnt think will hurt us in the long run. Thats all you really need to get out of the trade. He got the proven NHL talent back in the deal by only giving up Myers. Murray looks at this trade as Myers for Kane, Bogosian, and I dont fault him on that.

I was never upset about losing Armia, Lemiuex or the 1st round pick. Where I fell in the negative spectrum of this trade is that I didnt really want Kane and admittedly dont know too much about Bogosian game to make a real assessment on how close he is to Myers. What I do know is what we had in Myers, and I would rather have had that in our defensive mix, but Murray put his ass on the line for Kane, I hope Kane steps up next year and doesnt make Murray regret it.

for all of those that say we overpayed for Kane


if instead of giving up staff, armia, our first and lemiuex, would you think any different if we gave up the blues first, the islanders first and both of our second rd picks instead?
