Zuccarello is good and underrated, along with being young.
Your points are valid about Sharp and Eriksson, although Sharp is producing well again this year, but I would rather have both of those for the short term while not having to give up that much as it will help next year and perhaps the year ahead without causing an issue for the team long term if some of their prospects develop quickly. - kingcong39
Sharp is a great player, I'm not knocking his ability, but look who he plays with regularly. I just don't see him keeping that up long enough that I'd personally dismiss Kessel completely, that's all.

"Interesting" tidbit in relation to my post about 200+ goal scorers in the last 8 seasons....Kovalchuk is STILL on the list despite player 100+ games less than the majority of the other 20 players that high. Yowzah - stashu
If he wants to leave the KHL does NJ still own his rights?

He only has to keep it up for next season and the one after, at which he point he will be a UFA and they can decide then on resigning him or not, plus he won't cost much, IMO, to get from Chicago.

From a 2013 article:
As it stands, if Kovalchuk decided he wanted to return to the NHL, he would have to get unanimous approval from all 30 clubs. In a year's time, if Kovalchuk wanted to return, he'd have to get approval from the Devils. It's hard to imagine him getting Lou Lamoriello's blessing after bailing.
Bolded has expired, I'd think
In 2018 he needs no "approval"
This particular article doesn't state who has his rights, but I'm guessing he still belongs to NJ.

Zucc is being re-signed by NYR. St.Louis will either retire or be a ufa. - ImThatGuy
They'd be crazy not to but both Stepan and Hagelin are also going to require raises and them playing C would put them ahead of Zuccarello in terms of importance.
There has been talk that St. Louis would stay with the Rangers at a much reduced price.
