Foligno and Grigorenko - check
2 firsts and a 2nd - check
They may need more though, especially dealing in-division. Consider Foligno and Grigorenko as "not much", sort of like how Armia and Lemieux are getting written off as no big losses. 2 firsts and a 2nd for a perennial 35 goal scorer (yes, for those who want to argue, he may not make that this year) who will easily score more than that with a better center. - stashu
I brought it up last night my guess would be something like:
Ennis, Compher, Grigorenko the NYI 2015 1st and the Sabres 2016 Second (would become a 1st if the Sabres made the playoffs next year) for Kessel and Clarkson (they would probably insist on us taking him)

I'm really hoping he stays healthy. I think he combines the skill sets of Tyler Myers and Mike Weber in a way that this fan base will fall in love with. Could be the next Jim Kelly.

There isn't a chance in hell I would do that, get stuck with 2 bad contracts for 1 good player and help out the Leafs at the same time, not a chance. Let them find another sucker.

Only 21 people have scored over 200 goals the last 8 seasons (this + last 7). Kessel is 7th, 1 goal behind Jeff Carter in 6th (Kessel has 232 goals, btw). He's also 2nd youngest in the top 7 (behind Stamkos) and only 3 others with 200+ goals in that time are his age (equal or 1 year younger). - stashu
I think Kessel is very interesting because I don't think it would take too much to get him. After all, how many teams are willing and able to take on that contract? The teams out west are loaded and half the teams in the east are at the beginning of a rebuild. I am not a huge fan of his but he is an elite talent. If we could get him a treadmill and a quality center I think he could be elite again.
If Ottawa goes full rebuild I wonder if Ryan goes on the block. Not a huge fan of his either (I think he is a 2nd line winger on a good team) but it might not cost more than a 1st and prospect to get him.

Done, though conditional I'd try to make it finals?
Edit: crap, didn't realize Clarkson's contract was that long...that makes me hesitate now

They would be lucky if we took Kessel without taking back salary. They would have to be giving us that kind of return to take Clarkson. As per my last post there are few teams that could take Kessel on.

Why would we give up all that to take on Kessel and Clarkson? that deal make no sense what so ever. Do people want to be back in the same position in 2-3 years as we are now ? We can do better then Kessel with that horrible contract and then stuck with that pylon in Clarkson, how many more Leino's and Hodgson's do we need.

If we could make a trade without taking Clarkson back and only really giving up Ennis I would do it in a heartbeat

Agreed Taco.
The way I look at it, unless the prospect is considered can't miss, I want to see at least a little hint at the NHL level before I call a prospect an A.
That is why I consider Reinhart a B+ right now, Armia and Grigorenko a B, and a bunch of the other Sabres prospects from B to B-. - kingcong39
This is why I consider Reinhart in the "A" group.
1. Sam Reinhart (BUF), Kootenay Ice (WHL)
Last year’s highest drafted forward has notable offensive elements to his game that make him a potential, big-time point-producer in the NHL, highlighted by excellent skill and a high hockey I.Q. The 19-year-old Kootenay Ice center is perhaps less known for his very solid 200-foot game. What he lacks in elite level quickness, Sam Reinhart makes up for with composure, intelligence, and work ethic. During the 2015 World Junior Championship, Reinhart’s two-way prowess was on worldwide display as he not only dominated the scoresheet but was tasked with playing some of the hardest minutes of the tournament, including in the gold medal game where he stopped the Russians from making a comeback with some key defensive zone starts. If ever there was the next Patrice Bergeron or Jonathan Toews, Sam Reinhart looks to be it.

As '89 said there is no reason to give up anywhere near that. Pick and a prospect and they should be thrilled that we've taken 7 years at 8 mill off their books. Clarkson isn't going anywhere.

And we are also getting a consistent 30 goal scorer whose contract isn't nearly as bad as it seems
Cause that's the cost of poker on Kessel. - dadeadhead
hahha, Yeah anyone that's willing to do that need to have they're head examined.
Kessel is not a TM kind of guy, Personally I dont like the guy at all, Too soft, Think Vanak except quicker. Other options out there, and I would not give the leafs jack for him.
Your going to have your top two centers here next year, let them learn the in's and out's of the NHL, and then you can start tweaking from there.

If we ever took Clarkson's contract, I'd flood this board with 'the hippo'

Wonderful i'm thrilled with it but why give up so much for a guy with a horrible contract that the Leafs are screaming to get rid of ? We should just turn the ship back around and park it Darcy's driveway and let go with it because if Murray gives up all that to get Kessel, he's no better.
