John Tortorella acknowledged that he deserved to be fired following the Canucks' disappointing 2013-14 campaign.
Vancouver failed to make the playoffs after Tortorella led them to a 36-35-11 record. "I don't think I did the job for our team in the second half [of the season] with our consistency, and I think that’s what cost me my job," Tortorella said on 620 WDAE. "We couldn't stop the losing streaks. We needed to win a couple games within those areas. Quite honestly, I deserved to be fired after that second half of the year." Among other things, Vancouver's offense struggled under Tortorella's system, going from 2.54 goals per game in 2013, to 2.33 during Tortorella's tenure, to 2.76 this season.

Ha. I should have known better than to try to make a nice observation with all the cynicism on here.
To be fair, I would say the biggest problem with the sabres teams of the past decade wasn't that they under achieved, it was that you had players playing roles that they shouldn't have been in. Roy was never a 1st line center. He would have been a more than adequate 2nd line center (personal habits aside). Same thing for everyone else. They were slotted above their abilities. That's what's so exciting about the team being built now. You have a guy like reinhart who could very well be a 1st line center who is most likely going to play on the 2nd line. Having a team of players playing where they should be will be a nice change. In a couple years...

No I definitely do.
I don't get the need to spend 5 assets on someone who needs a fresh start.
Like I have said before, If it were Myers straight up, or even all of the assets for someone like Hall or Tarasenko I would feel differently. - sbroads24
You can only use the assets you have for guys that are available.
And, believe it or not, we have too many assets at this point. It's time to start packaging them up and flipping them for guys that can help now, instead of in 3 years. That's exactly what Murray did. It's what he's been saying he was going to have to do since he came in here.
They can only have 50 guys under contract, and with all the picks/prospects they've traded for recently, they have to start moving guys out or they risk losing them for nothing because they can't offer someone a contract due to not having one available to offer.

Whats a positive to you could be a negative to others, whats a positive to others could be a negative to you. Unless we win the cup, there will always be varying degrees of positives and negatives. - theblueandgold
Very true. your post can be viewed as say,,, Nuetral ?

Kessel>>>Kane
- Stripes77
Nooooooo, if for no other reason than Kane is younger and significantly more affordable. How many teams can take on Kessel's contract next year? Half of our conference is rebuilding and the teams out west are already at the cap.

Why do you stop at the "past 4 seasons"? So that you dont have to include Myers best statistical seasons where he made Bogo look like Weber? - theblueandgold
No that's not why at all honestly.
But if you think it's a positive to add those earlier seasons in for him, feel free.
Speaking for myself , that only shows the regression of Tyler Myers even more so.
The last 4 seasons are just the most recent and a better indication of what each player is capable of because its clear Myers never has come close to duplicating his best "statistical season" since.
And if you plan on using "the talent around him" as a rebuttal then I will say Ted Nolan just so we can cut to the chase here.

Kessel is a PPG player the last 4 seasons and you're telling me he isn't a better player than Evander Kane because he gets paid more? Thomas Vanek got 7 years 49 million and Kessel is faster and produces a lot more...
I am sorry but I couldn't possibly disagree more with you

Yes, to be fair it's not only HH who has mentioned the last 4 seasons. Coincidentally the years we have gone downhill

That's what you are missing. I didn't say kane is better, I said that it would take less to get Kessel because of his contract. Only a handful of teams could/would take that contract this summer whereas teams were lining up down the block to get Kane.
