That's what you are missing. I didn't say kane is better, I said that it would take less to get Kessel because of his contract. Only a handful of teams could/would take that contract this summer whereas teams were lining up down the block to get Kane. - Slump Buster
Contract be damned...Kane is hurt who played his last game in the Peg and didn't produce nearly as much...Kessel is a proven NHL All Star it will cost a pretty penny to get him especially if you aren't parting with a top 5 pick this year

I'll go on the record as saying that I would welcome Kessel here with open arms.

So because fewer teams can make the trade for him its going to cost less?
Fewer teams were shopping for Kane this season and a lot was given to get him. The price for a player is still going to be the price of the player. - Stripes77
Are you kidding? Supply and demand. The worth of anyone is how much someone will pay you for him. That is why Winipeg would have gotten far more for Kane in the summer.

Flipping around last night it really was amazing to see all of the former sabres in action last night. It seems like we sold high on most of them. Pommer and Vanek seem to be clearly on the downsides of their career (Minny has to wish they could get out from those contracts). Gaustad is.... well, a 4th liner. Roy.... enough said. I'll always be a fan of Miller but you don't build from the goal out.

This isn't the stock market or a retail store...
It's a NHL player that plays at a PPG pace and is an All-Star.
If Kessel is going to be traded it will be more than what the Peg got for Kane

No way. - sbroads24
They would have absolutely gotten NHL-talent instead of lottery tickets. In the end that's what we gave them. Either way, the difference in the number of suitors will be immense.

It is absolutely a stock market and we just bought low on a player. Why do you think Cody Hodgson is worth nothing? His career numbers are decent. The contract is what makes him immovable.

Pominville though? Other than a couple seasons, he's a 60 point-ish guy (60, 62, 66, 68). This year he has 41 in 54 games, so on pace for his norm.

pommer is the perfect second line player in the NHL, in every way
he just happened to be slotted as a first line player here

I read that they have noticed that his play has really slipped and that he is often bounced to the third line because the young guys passed him. I was surprised that they gave him the term that they did.

I'm not even sure what his term is, TBH, so I can't speak on it right now. The guy was/is solid though, too bad he had that albatross of captaincy on him.

I would not say we bought low on a player...
You're in the minority here and of course you are entitled to your opinion but if Kessel is to be moved it will be for a great return.
This isn't Luongo and his contract since teams don't like to tie up that kind of money for a goalie.
