GMJR has to know what's up with Sutter by now. GMJR brought in Karmonos who's supposed to be a analytics guru. The problem is the rest of the league knows to - willi
Then he knows while other positions might be nice to upgrade, it's critical to upgrade from the Blackhole as the 3C. Also, as recently as last year for the Kesler trade, Sutter was one of the assets Vancouver wanted going back the other way. I'd bet there are other front offices that overvalue him even this year too. |

I believe what the canucks said they wanted for Kessel was a 1st, prospect and a center. It wasn't like they targeted Sutter he just happened to fit what they wanted. Sutter may be bad but he's offers more than what some teams have .... eg. edm, arz, nj,

You're correct. It was 1st, Pouliot, and Sutter. The encouraging point is that they at least didn't view Sutter as a useless player as I'm sure some GMs would. And like you said, even if someone values him, it needs to be a team with a useful asset to replace him with or a series of deals. Which can certainly be challenging. |

Wow am I glad that deal didn't happen. Kesler is good but that's pouliot + sutter more than perron cost

It may be tough to find another 3C so it may be easier to find a better winger to help drive that line

if it was a 1st Sutter and Pouliot...that first technically was Kapanen. Kapanen, Sutter, Pouliot is way too rich for Kesler. Good player but too many assets at that age. |

Thats the issue with trying to upgrade Sutter. Lot of moving parts. Gotta deal him and get something else in return, then have the cap space to make another move and get the new 3rd line C which then we will be handcuffed with other GMs knowing were desperate for a center. |

Really hope its us. I liked him before this, but feel that whole situation in Fla and the way they treat him would really light a fuse if he came to Pittsburgh. He'd be a great 3rd liner here, but gotta make the cap space work, hell maybe they retain a little salary.
Who would the Cats potentially want? Spaling, Bortuzzo, Dumo, Harrington, picks. Hard to see a trade that works other than Spaling, which even though would be great, I don't think either team would bit unfortunately. |

It's hard to exaggerate the extent to which Spaling doesn't matter to the team. I think he was supposed to be this essential glue guy who couldn't actually play well. Mike Keane of the 20teens. Something like that. Ugh. He isn't as good as Jamie Langenbrunner, so let's just quietly allow that contract to expire, shall we?
What would Jaromir Jagr do? I'm actually pretty sure he would tell Rossi that he remembered that suit from 1997 then go score three points. JJ may go through a wall for Pittsburgh. |

For those wanting to bring Jagr in, we already have our top 2 RW's. Where do you propose to play him? 3rd line?

I like Bergenheim but I'd rather see Winnik traded for. But I guess it all depends on the cost

Are you referring to 3× stanley cup champion mike keane? Sure Spaling doesn't do anything great but he's versatile and good defensively. He's on pace for 12+ goals and 30+ pts. Those are close to the #s that Cooke and TK provided on the 3rd line. But I do agree Jagr would do anything to win a cup here....and make fun of Rossi

Isn't Sid controlling who is on his line? Kuni with Perron look great.
Why break up a partnership when we've just reunited it? Malkin seems to gel very well with Comeover, & Horny seems to have got back his horn now the pressure is off to gel with Geno.
As discussed earlier by a couple of posters - Jagr looks like he would only have 3rd line duties with us. Why would he/we want to do that? |

Is there any training Spaling can do to improve his accuracy or just his general shooting? I can think of about 4 occasions that he has just missed the net or puck that would have scored had he been a little better. Everyone misses, but he seems to just not quite have that part of his game. OR, I don't know shyte from clay. |

.Oh there's no doubt he has holes in his game. Shot isn't accurate or very hard and his first 2 steps are extremely slow. But most 3rd/4th liners have major flaws

You're just nostalgiaing for Jagr like everybody else, he's useless and sucks

But lots of folks on this board complain about the coaches not playing players in their natural positions.
I just don't think JJ is a good fit. |

Which player are you referring to ? Perron played LW before coming here ( but yes he does look good on the RW). Same with Comeau, he can/has played both sides before
