If the Penguins trade Paul Martin this season, they are basically conceding that they are not all-in to win a Stanley Cup this season.

Very true.

And Letang has been playing the best hockey in his career as of late. His partner has been Paul Martin... Can't see wanting to mess that up for a couple draft picks.

Said during the summer they should be paired and trading Martin would be a beyond stupid idea. But then we were playing so well that I eased up and said that retaining Martin is the better idea, but trading him wouldn't be the end of the world. Now I'm back to my hardline Martin stays for the cup run stance. Question: if management took the stance that one of either Martin or Hoff HAD to be retained would you want to pay 1 or so mil extra to keep Martin over Hoff? I think I would.

Unrelated: As a Notre Dame homer, I had (frank)ed around with idea of working out a deal with the Dirty Ders for Anders Lee earlier this season involving blue chip D prospects and a roster player. Given Lee's performance with Okposo going down and just generally good play this season, imagine how huge that would have been for us...

Just watched in on my DVR. Adams definitely ball tapped Perron and it looked like they were playing around but Adams never smiles which makes it awkward...

Your fascination with Jagr and Tlusty are mindboggling. Jagr doesn't serve a purpose.

#1 for me. I want them to extend him asap.

I don't know how anyone could have someone other than Comeau not number one on the list. He essentially was brought in with no high expectations to bolster the bottom six. Today, he is not only a top six winger for the Pens, but a competent one at 750K. He is one of the best bargains in the NHL today.

The question is how much is he worth? The price tag has gone up without question.

Missing out games due to injury helped our cause a bit, but not really by much since he hasn't missed a beat since coming back. I'd say he's worth somewhere between 2-3 mil. Remember, this has been one outstanding season following three or four sub par ones and he's playing with Evgeni Malkin. He'll fetch over 3 in the open market by a sub par team but we and any other contender shouldn't bid over 3 mil on him.

The most I would go would be 2.5 for 3. I think that's a fair amount of risk for both sides.

Just remember, both Glass and Engelland got payed from doing nothing. I'd say 3 with us, up to 3.75 elsewhere.

2 coaching staffs, same sit back and get beaten down until you have your back against the wall 3rd period strategy.

Adding scoring depth and helping out the PP doesn't serve a purpose ? He recently said he's willing to take a lesser roll. Put him with Sutter if you don't want to split up the top 6. MAYBE he can help the 3rd lines possesion time

Yep... and for the most part, we did not act like that the first 20 games this season. Now after all these injuries we have regressed some.

However... I am going to be wishful thinking and say we were just tired as (frank) from back to back and a late night in due to scheduling for this game, and the 3 games in 4 (another back to back) in that 5-0 loss.

The fact is they have played like the team we thought they would resemble in 4 of the last 5 games, but those 5-4 and 4-3 wins should have been 5-1 and 4-1 if they played the 3rd the way they played the 1st and 2nd.

They're coming around, i like what i see for the most part.

It's better than the previous 10 games plan of falling behind and playing catch up.....perfect, no. But better

I agree for the most part. He probably is only a top six winger that produces in Pittsburgh. Would you rather go to Edmonton for 3 million, a franchise that has to overpay, or take 2.5 million to stay in Pittsburgh and play with Malkin? That is a decision he will likely have to make.

Who would have thought we would be talking about a range of 2.5-3 million for Comeau?

I'm usually at my most pissed off between 8 and 10. That's when I'm in best form. It's usually reserved for the irate, irrational Flyers fans.

I really do not believe he can get 3 mil or more anywhere after this season, even hitting 25 goals.

Three knocks against him, in my mind, is injury prone, the sub par seasons after having 2 great seasons, and the Malkin effect.

Sounds right. I have no delusions that we can retain him for any lower than 2.5. It's gonna be around 3 mil. If he gets payed by us like a top 6 winger though I am going to be thoroughly upset. I'd rather go back to the bargain bin at that point.

Trading valuable assets for rentals doesn't give with me. Sorry. A 42 year old former superstar that once was a stud in Pittsburgh doesn't excite me regarding a return because he serves no purpose after this year. If I'm spending assets, which we don't have many of at this stage, I want longer term solutions, not rentals.
