In regards to trade value Kessel is worth a Blue Chip Prospect and a 1st rnd pick.
If trading to a Stanley Cup contender the Leafs would probably also have to pick up a bad contract with a little term on it.

Kessel would be a great pickup for the Islanders. I think the Islanders would be a lot to handle offensively.
Nobody mentions Kessel's playoff numbers. They're through the roof albeit not a lot of games played. Also factor in his Olympic output and he performs in big games.

Why? bcuz he makes 8M a year? He has been top 5 in points for the last 4 or 5 years in row...Players make more money then him are...Crosby, Malkins, Getzlaf, Perry, Ovie, E Stall, Nash, Joe Thornton, Toews, Kane not to mention others...And Kessel has scored more then the others in last five year in the row! So why is he not worth that much? Bcuz he's small? or cuz he plays for the Leafs? bcuz he makes 8M a year?

at some point i think you move some young assets for a player in his prime. I'm not certain that timing, the player and the contract makes sense, but an interesting concept anyways.

I think the leafs need to move kessel by Mar 2nd. there will likely be some good salary cap casualties on the market during the summer. Doesn't seem to be ideal timing to trade a big contract.
