Average coach IMO.
Gets the most out of some of them but in all an avg coach. - dadeadhead
Please, elaborate........
I would think Girgs would be his favorite type of player, he's still fighting with heart, but I haven't seen much more than regression, and lets just not go to Hodgson,
Stewart is playing hard for his Wallet! |

I really thought it was pretty clear.
He gets the most out of some of his players.
Others tune him out.
I've never thought of him as this great coach. He wears out his welcome usually by year 2. It is as much his fault as it is anyone else's. His ego is bigger than the players in the room combined. |

In other words, Vatanen will return with enough time to shake off the rust before the start of the playoffs, but this is a huge blow to his fantasy value for the rest of the campaign. He has 12 goals and 34 points in 57 contests in 2014-15. Anaheim called up defenseman Josh Manson, who is likely to play regularly during Vatanen's absence.
Hello Meszaros, let's see if that happens now. |

We keep Meszaros for two reasons:
1) I can't believe a successful team would want him
2) We should make McEichel wear #41 in his honor, and Andrej has an important role to play in the jersey awarding ceremony. |

Meh,
Nolan can go. He is very overrated NHL Coach. - ImThatGuy
How can you say he's overrated without even really seeing what he's capable of? He's been without even the semblance of a normal NHL caliber roster....the GM's been trading his players before and all throughout his tenure.
How about some substance behind the statement that he's overrated?
At the least he should be given the benefit of the doubt until the core of this teams future roster is mostly stabilized.....that won't likely happen until after next season. |

T. Pegs:
"Well Teddy, I got to say, this season was AWFUL!"
Nolan:
"It was the GM's Fault. He gave a half-full junk drawer, a highway cone and a bag of pucks to coach"
T. Pegs:
Well Tim, what do you have to say to that?"
GMTM:
"It was the coaches fault. He couldn't get the best out of the half-full junk drawer, a highway cone and a bag of pucks"
T. Pegs:
"well then, carry on! See you next fall!" |

Murray kept Nolan because the casual fan still thinks he's amazing. Murray's plan was to tank and didn't want his long term coach to go through that. Keep teddy, make the fans happy. Fire him because "the team stunk" and then he can bring his guy in. Nolan knew this was the job. He gets 2 years in the NHL and a boatload of money. He won't be complaining |

Those "others" tend to be the ones good enough to win championships with. He's good if you want to put an island of misfit toys on the map. It's impossible to hire him and say "we're serious about winning a Stanley Cup" with a straight face.
He was brought here and kept here to keep the blue collar fanbase from whining about the "tank" too loudly, nothing more. |

My counter to this is:
A: Has he ever coached a team of players that could seriously say they are contending for the Stanley Cup?
B: Cody Hodgson. Seriously. Did he miss the memo that hockey is a contact sport? That even though the word "defenceman" isn't next to your name on hockey cards, sometimes you OCCASIONALLY have to play defence? I mean, if that's what a player is "tuning out" good luck in the league under any coach.
Its literally 6 of one, 1/2 a dozen of the others? Is it the players or the coach? Easier to fire the coach I guess.

He did. In 1997, the one Lindy Ruff took even further, without missing a beat.
Cody Hodgson deserves ridicule, but when a coach comes out and continually reiterates the tired old mantra of "you just gotta fight through it", it usually means he's clueless. Good coaches put their players in a position to succeed. If they don't deliver, then it's on them. Hodgson hasn't been given that at all.
Like I said, this team isn't a good team, but it does have a number of players that have done good things in this league. When just about all of them have collectively their worst years ever, 90% of the time, coaching has quite a bit to do with it. |

Everyone acts like Murray had no choice to hire Nolan, he could have hired anyone he wanted PR move or not, you think he cares about PR ? Murray can care less, if people haven't figured it out by now something is wrong. - SABRES 89
Murray's been fresh out of (frank)s the second he walked in here. |

Not accepting the one year extension was on him, but it was also pretty insulting. He probably should have just taken it, but whatever. Water under the bridge.
Hodgson proved himself last year. Under the same coach. Now, he's with different players due to the GM. Not really sure how you can pit that one on Nolan.
I don't think Nolan is the end all be all....and I don't think he absolutely totally sucks and it the worst coach in the world forever and ever. I'm just in the middle. so, I kind of try to talk to both groups here.

Not really.
It'll be so much easier for Murray to fire Nolan than it would "his guy".
Murray played this perfectly. - grand-magus
I think so too, keep Nolan until you want to bring is someone new. He hired him and he can fire him if he wants. Nothing against Nolan but everyone is replaceable.
