Has anyone noticed the system changes that I have to the Oilers? I'm curious if its just anecdotal stuff I'm noticing or if its more common.
Just that under Nelson it seems the Oilers run more inside support where under Eakins it was outside support.
Especially on the break out and zone entries. Under Eakins, I feel like they stayed outside the dots where Nelson seems to want things going through the middle a bit more.
The trade off here I guess is high percentage, low risk, puck control but a bit of a limit on offensive creativity, where the inside/middle support is higher risk, more difficult but gives the inside player 3 or 4 options versus the outside player have 2, 3 if they were lucky.

I think this changes when Hall is in the lineup, he has so much speed that he forces the defense to back up and then the play can be pushed up the boards. That being said it is very hard to watch the games closely anymore so...
