I think a lot of us, including myself, thought the team would get the dead dog bounce from changing the coach but I have to say I like what I'm seeing:
- protecting Jultz/Klefbom although last night was not their best game
- Yak/Roy tandem is working nicely, crazy what a vet NHL centre can do
- Team is competing hard without the best player |

They just working harder and play a more up tempo game. It's fun to watch. |

Babcock....thats it? NOBODY has more experience/success out there other than Babcock? - Jeropotato
You want Bylsma over Nelson? Nelson knows this organization and most of the players. |

You have to wait and see which coaches are all available- you have to look under all stones... We have had so many (frank) ups with coach choices... gotta make this right this time... Nelson would have a good shot at it tho... But interview and find a vet coach or stick with Nelson- no more rookie coaches for this young team... ie Eakins |
|
|
|
So I take it Iggy and his pro eakins approach dont want to enter in the conversation??
I really want to hear how Eakins benefitted the Oilers- for 1.5 yrs... Esp developing players like Yak, Lander, Eberle, Klefbom, - the additions of Roy and Klink helped contribute- but its so blatantly obvious Nelson has done something to this team, and that thing called the PP |

No I completely agree. We have to make the right decision. But IMO Nelson will be the guy behind the bench next year. |

The thing that makes me furious with Eakins is just how much he MAY have ruined Yaks. Yaks played his ass off early in the year and never got a shot at being more than a 10 minute a night 3rd liner. When you have a 1st overall pick, give him a chance to succeed because he is a very valuable asset. |

Well I for one really enjoy the Oilers now that they give up 40 shots every game. |

It's weird that Yakupov seems to praise Roy every chance he gets but hasn't said a whole lot about the coach... |

The only coach that needed to be praised like a little puppy was Eakins... |

I'm just gonna leave this here. I won't contest that there was some kind of fundamental flaw with how Eakins coached Yak cause it's clear that was the case, but it was not due to a lack of opportunity.
2013-14
Yak's EV TOI with each player (total of approximately 700 minutes):
Gagner = 318:31
RNH = 227:39
Eberle = 193:52
Perron = 176:35
Hemsky = 125:46
Hall = 111:47
...
Gordon = 51:01
Joensuu = 40:26
Gazdic 26:17
Dmen Yak most frequently played in front of:
Schultz = 255:05
Petry = 233:34
Ference = 231:04
Yak's expanded metrics:
Offensive zone start percentage: 63.90% (1st among Oilers)
Facing between 2nd and 3rd line competition
Played 14:10 minutes per night
Averaged 2:10 minutes per game on the PP (most frequently alongside Gagner, Perron, and RNH) |

We've been over this, just proves how he was thrown around the lineup, never got a chance to stick with a line. And my comment was on this year. |
